This property has improved dramatically from 2003. It goes to show how investing in people and facility can result in a resort that may be the best on the Island. It may not cater to all, but for the Guests that decide to invest a huge chunk of hard earned vacation dollars for a stay here, it's money well spent! All the Employees at Song of the Sea strive to make your stay extremely comfortable. The impression I get is that they really enjoy working at this beautiful Resort.
The rooms are inviting and very comfortable, and I highly recommend room #4120/Valencia for the best value. This room is located on the 2nd floor end of the pool facing building with a corner veranda that views the Ocean. The rooms in this building are offered at a lower rate. Rooms in the other two buildings are not worth the upgrade, unless you need the space of the Oceanfront suites.
Without tax, rate was $225 per night for 6 nights. This rate is a very good value for a place of this quality,
April was a great time of year to go to Sanibel. Clear blue skies, temps in the mid-80's everyday. February stays tend to be cold and limit Beach time.
Third stay here...this visit was the best!
Go in April and reserve a room at Song of the Sea.

We visit our clients in Fort Myers annually and wanted to stay on Sanibel Island. I found this hotel and its sister hotels online. I chose this one by the trip advisor reviews. We had an ocean front room. It was well layed out and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom was smaller than I would have liked but we managed. The staff are super friendly and will help you with anything you need. This place is best for couples not children. If you want to lay out on the beach you need to claim your beach chairs and umbrella early in the morning. They are free but go pretty fast. The sand and ocean are glorious. It was very peaceful and quiet on our stay.

Beautiful intimate resort with lots of things included-breakfast every morning from 7:30-10:00 which included fruit, yogurt, cereals and milk. coffee and juices, mufffins and pastries different breads, english muffins and bagels for toasting and a waffle maker for homemade waffles which were excellent. staff very friendly and helpful.received a free bottle of wine upon checking in which was nice also fresh flowers were in the room. beach chairs and unbrellas are free where other resorts charge daily fee never had a problem getting them.beach towels are provided in your room everyday.sanibel lighthouse is a 11/2 mile walk away which is nice to see and gather your shells along the way. i was amazed at all the beautiful shells on the beach. i would not recomended this hotel for children it is centered around couple-that is why it is called a intimate romantic seaside inn. there is nothing for children to do here-i would recomend one of the other resorts that is part of this family. would highly recommend The Timbers restaurant excellent food for the value also jerry's for breakfast. only complaint would be very small bathroom and it could also use a vent. sanibel island is a place to go if you want a romantic getaway without a lot of partying and noise. song of the sea was a great fine and i cannot wait to return.

  • Liked — the peacefulness and easy access to beach

Spring Break 08 and back to Sanibel. Decided to stay at Song of the Sea again (we stayed there spring break of 06). Looked at condos on VRBO.com but the cancellation policy is more stringent for them and decided to stick with SOTS we we had to book thru Orbitz and the hotels web site had nothing available. We ended up in a beach front suite directly above the one we stayed in two years ago. Same decor/layout. Bedroom has comfy king size bed that literally takes up the whole room. There is a small closet and dresser and two nightstands. A flat screen tv is mounted on the wall.

There is a nicely appointed but small bathroom. The shampoo and stuff was all Rusk Calm which I love. You can buy it at Ulta. Plenty of towels - 100% Egyptian cotton. Very nice.

Sleeper sofa in main room - small kitchenette with normal size fridge/freezer. coffee maker is one cup at a time but you can request a bigger one.

Room comes with a complimentary bottle of wine, we had a merlot from Washington state, not too bad. Breakfast is also included in the rate - at the office - they have a waffle maker, some fresh fruit - some days it was sliced cantaloupe, honey dew and watermelon, a couple of the days they had bananas, oranges, kiwi and apples. coffee, juices, yogurt, milk, small muffins, danish. Cereal. Bagels, etc. Not bad.

Beach chairs and umbrellas are also complimentary on a first come first served basis. We usually didn't have trouble getting chairs and an umbrella.

Pool is nice and also has a couple round tables with umbrellas which is nice. There is a shuffle board court and a hot tub.

There is no bar but you can walk next door to the Sanibel Inn's poolside bar/grill. They serve drinks and limited menu. Not bad food either. Grouper fingers were decent.

There were 3 of us and space is tight, I think 2 adults and two kids on the sleeper sofa would be max but we saw groups with 4 adults and kids - not sure how they did it..

Overall we like SOTS and would return.

  • Liked — comfort, proximity to beach and beach amenities
  • Disliked — tightness of space

My husband decided to take me on a quick surprise trip for my 50th birthday... always wanted to go to Sanibel Island, Fla. We chose to stay at THe Song of the Sea. What a great place! Very peaceful, quaint and lovely place. Clean, large bed, comfortable room and a bottle of wine to begin our stay! I really can't say enough wonderful things about it. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and the people who work there were all so pleasant. This place is a real jewel on Sanibel. There are only 30 units and seemed to be mostly all adults there. The price is not inexpensive, but we booked a package with airfare, car and hotel and were not really thinking too much about the individual prices of each item. We will definitely go back there someday....looking forward to the beautiful white sand beaches, awesome shelling , great restaurants, and peaceful time we can't wait to enjoy again!!!!! I could not possibly say one negative thing about this place!!! It was the best! I am so glad we didn't go to Cancun during spring break!
