“Better for Families”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

This isn't my first stay at the Sandestin Resort. I must say it has really transformed itself into a family destination. If your expecting a relaxing couples getaway, I say search elsewhere. The pools and beaches were packed with unsupervised children. I understand parents need a break but not at the expense of other guests. No consideration for others. Plenty of activities in the Village for children that include movies on the lawn, carousel rides, zip lines, climbing towers, etc. It's like a mini amusement park. What a difference in the restaurant choices too. With bike rentals available and other amenities it would be a perfect spot for families. The accommodations suit every need. But If your looking for a getaway from the village you might want to head for the marina. They offer sunset dinner cruises, Yolo boards, wave runners, and another bike rental kiosk. The resort is large enough to find an escape if you look. But I would suggest to book an off season time for a romantic getaway. You might have a better opportunity to enjoy the pools.

Stayed at pilot house studio for one night. Our room was outdated and dirty! Did not want to touch carpet. Sink about to slip off wall. Hair in bathroom. Tile mildewed. We have stayed at sandestin for years. Last visit was to luau in May 2014. It was amazing! This visit was not! Due to the room. It was cheaper, but it was really bad! The resort and staff are still good, too. Be careful of the rooms. Each are individually owned. Not always a good thing!

Room Tip: Look at the room first. All are different.

I stayed in the Luau, first time visiting Destin. I was blown away by this place. It's huge and so much to do, you don't have to leave the property. The beach is a short walk, white sand, emerald water, great restaurants and bars. I'm in love with this place. The rooms were extremely nice too.

Keavon R,

Thank you for your review of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort and Luau Towers. We appreciate your business and so pleased you enjoyed your time with us. We are 2400 acres and much to see and do. Luau is a great location as it is close to the beach and has amazing views of the resort and our beautiful Baytowne golf course. Luau has a wonderful amenity deck with a great pool, hot tub and Tiki bar for your convenience. We do hope you will choose Luau and Sandestin again soon.

Regards,

We stayed in a two bedroom condo for two nights. Condo had updated decor and view of beach was good. Odd smell in our unit. I think it was cigarette smoke. I had to go buy some Febreeze to neutralize the odor. Check in staff did not explain that there was a gate and code to enter the beach. I called the front desk for this information and was on hold for 10 minutes. When the staff tried to help me they did not know the correct code to enter the beach either. I waited at the gate and asked another guest staying at the condos to help. Luckily they gave me the code. Service poor for these very expensive condos.

I have stayed at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort nearly every summer since 2009, and I enjoy it every time. I have, however, noticed changes over the years, both good and bad, and still some improvements that need to be addressed. But first of all, the good. I love the resort. It is very family-oriented and kid friendly. I enjoy staying on the beachside in the summer to have easy access to the beach and not have to drag my stuff far to the beach. We stayed in Luau, my favorite place, and were just a short walk from the beach. The pool there is large with its own bar and a waterfall with plenty of places to sit and lay out. The Luau is a unit of condos so don't expect room/cleaning service unless you want to pay for it. You will need to wash your own towels, linens, dishes, and take out the trash. The kitchen comes fully stocked with dishes and whatever is needed to cook a meal, which is great if you don't want to eat out all the time. We had a 3 bedroom unit with clear views of the beach and resort. It was so nice to sit out there in the mornings and drink coffee. I do feel like the units look a little worn, the carpet especially, but overall it was nice and very comfortable, almost like being home. As for the resort, well, I love it. Many people are out in the mornings running, walking, or biking, and I loved my daily run through the resort from the beachside to the bayside. Runners need not worry about having to cross the busy street to reach the bayside of the resort because there is a tunnel underneath. The resort is very well kept and actually is home to a number of residents with permanent homes. This adds to the family feel of the resort. The Village at Baytowne is located on the bayside and is such a fun place to dine, shop, and let children play. There is always a ton of activities going on for families whether it is a movie night on the lawn, the zip line, eurobungy, or an obstacle course. There are many restaurants to choose from, shops, and a boardwalk that leads to the marina. At the marina, visitors can rent a yolo board, kayak, or bikes for the day (guests of the resort receive some of these for free). Some members of my party actually paid for a fishing guide and went out on his boat for 4 hours. They had a fantastic time. The Village is usually most busy at night when people are out for dinner, the activities, and shopping. There is something for everyone. Open containers are even allowed until 10pm every night, which is nice if you want to buy a drink and walk around. Just try and arrive a little early to avoid having to park down the street and walk over. Valet is available for six dollars, but does fill up sometimes. If you do not want to ride, the resort offers trams that run on a regular basis and will pick you up at certain spots. We noticed this year that the trams were even more frequent in their stops, which is nice when there is a large number of people waiting.
For us, the negative aspect of our visit was on the beachside. We rented three sets of chairs each with its own umbrella. It is rather costly, even with a resort card (a room key), but we were unaware that the resort cannot control what goes on the front 20 feet of the beachfront. We were under the impression that the beach was private and no one would be able to set up their umbrellas in front of us. Quite the contrary. We had people set up on front of us the whole two weeks we were there blocking our view of the beach. Some people were so rude as to set up nearly right on top of us and they even had the nerve to try and move our things out of the way. I even came out several times in the mornings around 10 or 10:30 to find people in our spots (ignoring the reserved sign) or their things in our spots. This was highly aggravating and I complained several times. Sandestin needs to address this. They do have signage around the beach telling people to not set up in front of the Sandestin resort chairs, but people completely disregard this request. Next year, we won't even bother to rent chairs. Otherwise, our stay was fantastic and we do plan on returning many times over as long as the resort continues its level of service and standards.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the beach if you book at Luau.

Stayed at the homes in magnolia village. A nice home for 4. Sundestin golf and beach resort is huge with beautiful scenery. Upkeep is poor. Pool is dirty with no smell of chlorine and far walk. Ponds are to be stocked but seems with only turtles. Be prepared that since u are in FL, you get all kinds of bugs in and out of your homes is their excuse. Don't mind the Huge 3" cockroaches. Be extra careful if ur walking around with children...place is busy and golf carts and cars definitely think they have the right of way. Last the beach area gets really crowded due to over set ups of unused beach chairs. Which I think is really selfish of the resort because it pushes most people who bring their own gear anyways to the very front edge of water or far far back. No sunbrellas or
tents in front. So you got people hanging right next to you from all corners.

Stayed over the fourth of July weekend. It was really busy but staff was nice and friendly. We rented bikes from the bike shop @ Sandestin where Jake helped us. He gave us awesome bikes that we rode around the whole trip. The resort is huge with restaurants, shops, and other attractions. Definitely would reccomend it!
