My husband and I spent a day in St. Petersburg, Florida. We fell in love with the city . It is so beautiful, clean, organized and relaxing. We took a bus for 0.25 cents and gives you a half an hour tour of the most important places in the city. The driver was super nice and very informative on suggestions on places to go and eat. We decided to visit The Pier. There is enough parking at the entrance of the Pier. From there a trolley takes you to the Pier. There is a five story building with restaurants, shops, a look-out floor and more. You can also rent fishing gear to fish from the Pier. We decided to eat at The Columbia Restaurant, which we have tried before in Tampa. We love the place. It is a Spanish restaurant and service is the best. Food is incredibly good.
In the city there are a lot of art galleries, restaurants, beautiful buildings and great people. Very relaxing atmosphere. It is a must see and we definitely will go back to stay more days.

Good pit stop for smoked fish and cold beer. $6 for a take-out small smoked mullet.

St. Pete has some very nice places, but if you're planning a beach vacation, beware. The red tide is the worst in history and dead fish wash up on the beaches daily. The water is a putrid green and the algea bloom has a smell of amonia which will burn your eyes and make you cough.

The hotels are not telling people about it, but check out the red tide watch before booking a trip.

Red tide is bad from Tarpon Springs south to Boca Grande.
