Booked the Vinoy through Marriott as I have status with them. Was a little concerned that the hotel was one of those "historic" properties that relied on the history to bring guests in... with little in the way of modern ammenities. Boy was I wrong! The hotel has an old world charm, however, they have augmented the building with some very nice modern equipment. The pool was very nice and perfectly situated just above the entryway, overlooking the bay. The fitness centre looked liked very progressive ( I believe I saw a Spin studio). As a bit of a fitness nut, I loved that.
While we didn't use the facilities, the overriding theme of this hotel is service. From the check in we felt like this was a top notch hotel. I have had the opportunity to stay at 5 star properties around the world, including a number of hotels rated consistantly as the Best in the world and the Vinoy's service ranks right up there.
As we were travelling with our two small children, I was concerned that the Vinoy would be a little "Stuffy" for us. Each staff member engaged our 3 year old trying to make him feel welcome.
We were upgraded to a harbour view room which was huge and perfect for all the items that come with travelling with children. While I am sure that we got the room given the economy ( the hotel probably wasn't full), it was perfect.
I would like to thank Glenn, who works the Bell desk for trying to engage my son and just generally being helpful and obviously happy to help. You can sense when someone is "going through the motions" with service vs someone who likes thier job. Every staff member I encountered at the Vinoy appeared to like working there.. alot.
Net, while this is not Disney nor a resort for kids I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to parents who don't let the kids run thier life (and can enjoy a vacation with the kids without a theme restaurant or DVDs to keep them entertained :)
