“Loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2008

We travelled from Ireland to Florida for our honeymoon and stayed in Orlando for the first three nights. The hotel there was not great at all so we had high hopes for the Vinoy. On arriving our car was valet parked and we checked in and went straight for breakfast. The service was very good and the food was excellent. Our bags were taken to the room while we proceeded to the golf club. We booked a golf package so a round of golf per day was included in our stay.

The golf course was fabulous. The service was second to none and everything about the place said quality. We rented clubs and we were given brand new Callaway X20's, and the golf buggy was equipped with golf balls, towels and iced water.

The room in the hotel was very nice and was extremely comfortable. The hotel itself was in a fabulous location and sitting around the veranda in the afternoon was a real treat.

All in all, if you are going the St. Petersburg, this is definately a one stop shop. We said we would definately return.

The Vinoy is gorgeous on a pristine bay circled by wide verandas and tropical gardens. My room overlooked the marina. The service as first rate. All my requests were granted quickly and with kindness. The word was the the Yankees were staying there while in town to play the Devil Rays though I never saw them. I expect they can stay in the best Tampa Bay has to offer.

My only complaint: they wanted me to pay $15 to check my email. I don't want to read my email that bad.

The Vinoy Hall is beautiful and remind you of some Renaissance hotels in Europe - A Walk Back in Time.

My family and I had stayed there on 3/24 for 4 nights so we could visit the IMG Tennis Academy and other Prep schools in Bradenton. The Vinoy, which is a lot cheaper than other 5 stars hotels, displays opulence and a history that could rival the San Dieo Del Coronado (but not quite.) We spent our time sitting in the Hall and enjoying the opulence and the atmosphere. Both restaurants in the lobby not only serves good foods but also provides a rich ambience and decor that would enhance your dinning experience in many ways.

The hotel is close to the Pier that you can walk to from the hotel. It is also close the Baywalk Plaza where you can take a stroll and sample some of the best pastries at Toojay - my wife and kid favorite every morning.

I'd made a mistake of booking a room with the Spa (hot tubs.) It was not hot and leaked water alot so we have to stay on the ground floor instead of a high floor for a view. But the room is very nice, and the beds were very comfy. If you can, pick a high floor with the balcony for a view - you will love it.

The hotel has 12 tennis courts and a pro-shot opened from 8am. You have to be a member of the club or pay $20 for 1.5 hours of playing time. All the courts are the slow and greenish clay (not the red clay like French Open.) If you have not play on clay before, this is a great opportunity to do it and prepare to hit a lot of balls.

The hotel has a decent swimming pool, and the Alfresco restaurant is close-by to satisfy your thirst and hunger.

The hotel is not close to the beach, and it will take about 20 minutes to drive to the closest one, which we did every day.

If we have to go to St. Petersburg again, we will stay at the Vinoy but a high floor with a view.

This is a choice hotel for anyone wishing to step back in time and yet have all the conveniences of today. Simply lovely, superb service and a great location.

The very good:
Concierge: Ann was so helpful and knowledgeable.
Dinner at Marchand's, lunch by the pool at Alfresco's, sipping a cocktail on the veranda, walking to all the shops and museums close by.
Lovely, quiet room, comfortable bed, fine linens

Minor complaint:
An adult pool would be welcome.

One night we made the short trip to Tampa for dinner at Bern's - (Ann gave us easy printed directions). This highly recommended fine dining experience should not be missed. Our waiter Matt was excellent.

I recently stayed for two nights at the Marriot Vinoy. It is a beautiful hotel. There are two parts to the hotel, we stayed in the older part which is attached to the lobby and restaurants. Our room very nice.

We were there over Easter and the day we arrived the pool area was overflowing and there were no chairs or tables open, but the other days (Monday and Tuesday) we were there we didn't have any problems. The staff at the hotel was fantastic, always willing to help.

We ate a few different meals at Alfresco's which is right inside the hotel and is very reasonably priced and very good for burgers and salads.

There is a free trolley that will take you down to The Pier, where there is shopping and restaurants and an aquarium. Also close by is Baywalk where there is more shopping (White House Black Market and Birkenstock) and a couple different restaurants.

One thing that you should know before you go is that it is 14.95 a day for internet in the room. I was surprised since we stayed at Homewood Suites, Residence Inn by Marriot, Gaylord Resort, and Homewood Suites by Hilton the same trip and the internet was complimentary.

This old hotel has a great front porch for relaxing with friends, and a beautiful lobby. There is a walking path that leads through a residential neighborhood that is great for running in the morning (or at night- it is lit).

The town is nothing to write home about.

Without a doubt, the highlight of this hotel is the excellent staff.
They are helpful and go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable.
We stayed in a Bay view room and it was well worth the extra cost.
Great view!
Overall the room was an acceptable size.
The comfort of the bed was superior.
The bathroom was clean with two sinks and stocked with adequate towels.
One minor quibble was the old fashioned television. It is time for the hotel to upgrade to a flat screen high definition model.
Valet parking staff was also friendly and efficient.
We are returning to the area in March 2008 and will stay here again.

  • Liked — The helpful and courteous staff.
  • Disliked — The old fashioned television in the room.
