We just stayed at the LaQuinta for 3 nights and overall, it was a pleasant, satisfying trip. We requested and got a quiet room in the rear--it was during spring break and the hotel seemed to be pretty full. The pool area in the center court is well landscaped, but can get noisy with many children in the pool. Our room had two beds and a refrigerator which was a plus and although the room was not large it had adequate space. We had a few minor issues with the place--pillows are very soft and do not provide much support for your head and housekeeping is a little lax--not vacuuming floor unless asked to, forgetting to provide hand towels.
Breakfast is provided--hard boiled eggs, waffles, cereal, bagels, muffins, etc. Pretty adequate breakfast. Although the breakfast room is fairly large, it got very crowded during our stay.
Our rate was a reasonable AARP rate of about $58 per night, although we heard the clerk quote the rack rate of $107 to customers.
For us the location was ideal. It is back off 34th St., a major north-south street (hotel is on 50th Ave. N) and is fronted by a Denny's restaurant. It was a short distance to the entrance to I-275 off 54th Ave. N. Downtown St. Petersburg is easy to get to and it is only a few miles to Pinellas Park, Largo and somewhat farther, Clearwater.
There are numerous very reasonable dining options around the area, especially Mekong, a wonderful Vietnamese place that is only about 10 blocks north on 34th St.
