This hotel is close to the St. Pete's airport and many restaurants, which is a plus. It also has easy access to the Tampa I275 causway, also a plus if you plan to be in Tampa.

Other than that, this is a pretty standard hotel.

The rooms are what you would expect for 70 bucks, nothing special here, although ours was clean and maid service was prompt.

The only real draw here is the pool area, which was well maintained. The whirlpool was nice and hot and the pool heater was on high ( a tad warm for me actually).

This is a good port-in a pinch, but more than 1 night is a waste.

We chose this motel for cheapness. Driving 15-20 minute to the beaches was a trade-off we took consciously . But we got less than we bargained for.

Our room was always dark being obscured by a staircase. The "high-speed Internet" that allegedly is present in every La Quinta hotel room was not so high-speed due to an absence of a jack in our room. Upon inquiry, the receptionist told us that not all rooms have been wired. As for the wireless, I had some difficulty getting a good signal. When I did, the speed was rather slow. Also you have to reauthenticate yourself every day to prove you are still a guest of the hotel. It is more than a little disappointing when your connection breaks down in the middle of something and you are asked to login again.

But our main complaint was the breakfast. The muffin I got was rotten, it was covered with mildew, mold, or I do not know what. It was completely green on one side. I showed it to the person in charge of breakfast and was just shrugged away. Good thing I looked before taking a bite. Apparently they did not check food quality or probably they store food for too long.

I should also mention that reception was not manned at all times. Staff was taking mysterious breaks from time to time or was engaged talking to their friends. Once I was greeted by a receptionist with the question: "Is this your dog?" Apparently someone left a dog at the reception, probably during one of those breaks, without the hotel knowing whom the dog belonged to. Whether the dog was at least on a leash, I cannot tell: I decided not to stop and look.

Overall, it was barely bearable, but no pleasant memories.

“Awful - don't even think of staying here!”

La Quinta Inn

I thought this would be a respectable place (with a name brand) to stay for a modest rate. The rate was modest, but the place is really skeevy. The first sight to greet you at the front entry is a butt strewn smokers refuge. After wading through the cloud of cigarette smoke and debris, you are inside a place with a different bad smell at every turn. The lobby has at least three different odors, the hallways at least two different ones, and then you get to your room. The rooms are decently sized, though furnished from prehistoric times. I reserved a no smoking room and it just smelled of chemical air freshener over stale smoke-choked carpet and drapes. When I decided to turn off the air conditioner and open the window I stepped into a water logged carpet - apparently the AC usually runs continiously and the condensation pools inside the room. When finally I got the window open, I was seranaded by a noisy group in the pool well past the stated closing time of 10:00pm. I decided to examine the bedding: bedspread was stained on the inside (who knows what on the outside) the sheets had hairs and other unknown things on them. I plan to stay elsewhere whenver I'm in the area again.

I booked this motel directly because I had business in the area.
What I didn't know was the general seedy area that it was in. This is an old property and it shows. The room was somewhat clean but not by top notch standards. The mattress was lumpy on each side, towels were small.
I will not stay here again.

Found this hotel in one of the coupon booklets you can find. When I arrived at the hotel I noticed the bad area it is located in. I decided to check it out anyways and asked to view the room before booking it. I'm glad I did...... The room I checked wasn't cleaned, dirty towels were on the floor, there were used soap bars all over the bathroom and there were cylindric metal pipes lying in the bathtub. The beds were not made and dirty. I made sure I got out of there as fast as possible......
