We had a family outing in the Weedon Island preserve and had a great time. Just past the Natural History Center on the other side of the road, Sweetwater Kayaks are renting kayaks for getting out on the water amongst the mangroves. We just went for an hour but we had a blast. There are lots of "mangrove tunnels" and water birds. I was hesitant to take my camera with me so the Sweetwater people lent me a waterproof bag to protect it. I got several good shots and will go back again to spend more time around the sand bars where a lot of birds hang out. Sweetwater said that they had just started providing the rentals there a few weeks ago so I hope that they do well and are there the next time I go out.
