“Peaceful, Inviting, and Eclectic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

I booked this hotel at the last minute as my first choice, the beach area, was booked. I'm so glad things worked out the way they did....The hotel rooms, as stated, are small, but they are very comforfortable and very well lit with natural light. Great windows! and they open, which is a big deal to me.

The hotel staff is very personable, and the coffee shop brews great coffee. The bar/restaurant area is nicely open to the lobby, and the whole ground floor has a great flow and a great feel from the moment you check in.

The best part of the hotel, to me, was the veranda running the entire length of the front of the hotel. They have couches, chairs, conventional tables, and it has both the feel of being an extension of the lobby/bar/coffee shop, as well as a separate space unto itself. You can relax out there, drink coffee, read, and feel that your privacy is respected, or you can engage in conversation with the other guests and visitors that migrate to that space. Your choice.

Regarding the beaches; it was a 10-15 minute drive to get to Treasure Island down Central Avenue, and from there it was north or south on Gulf to whatever beach you'd like.

I am looking forward to a return trip to the Hollander, and another relaxing stay.

“What a find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

The friendliest staff I've encountered in a LONG time. They were very busy because the local paper had just published an article which raved about the place! In spite of LOTS of folks and a few staff absences, our entire stay was smooth - thanks to the wonderful folks running the place and working there. It's an older hotel, just three stories high, with a restaurant, bar (lots of local and small craft beers on tap!), and coffee shop. The rooms are small but have very comfortable beds, fluffy pillows, and soft linens. Bathrooms are also small, but have tub and shower. The windows open, so you can let in some of the wonderful air in St Petersburg (and let out the stale, over airconditioned smell of many hotel rooms).
The rooms come with coffee maker, fridge, table and chairs but only one reading lamp. The owner is trying to preserve some of the calm of an earlier era, so there are no phones or alarm clocks in the rooms. We had a couple of special requests which were quickly fulfilled.
The hotel is very centrally located, just a few blocks from the Dali Museum, the Fine Arts Museum, the Chihouly exhibit and the pier. LOTS of really good restaurants nearby (and one right there in the hotel itself!).
Acoustic tile in the ceiling of the restaurant/bar area would help. On Friday and Saturday night with lots of people and live music, the place gets pretty loud. Our room was on the third floor, so we weren't bothered, but I'm glad we were up there. We plan a return trip in the near future. It's good value for the money.

Room Tip: Third floor, unless you want to hear the music without having to go downstairs!

“A very quaint eclectic little jewel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

We found this hotel to be delightful and a great value. Stellar decor in the lobby to welcome you funky furnishings and clever placements made for great leisure breaks .Staff was helpful and attentive when asked .The rooms were clean with nice bed linens and beautiful hardwood floors. A few minor minor things : no tissues in the room, fridge ran very poorly, no bathroom counter space and only 1 waste basket hence Boutique right? They had a fabulous in-house coffee shop which made my mornings splendid along with a FANTASTIC veranda to enjoy coffee on.The in-house restaurant maybe new to the scene they seemed to be struggling on our first visit
out of numerous items but they were very apologetic and the manager offered coupons for the next visit so it made up for the mishaps. Live music which was a nice extra. What a GREAT little gem for the buck
Note (we did travel with no children)

“What a great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We stumbled on the Hollander House last week for a 2 day stay and liked it so much we stayed for 5. The Tap Room is a great place to unwind. The location is an easy walk to the waterfront. The price was very reasonable. I can't say enough good things about this place!

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room.
