As we drove into the downtown St. Petersburg area, I was pleasantly surprised with the shops/cafes and the park along Beach Dr and ... our hotel was smacked right in the middle of it all. We valet our car and checked in and both processes were fast and easy. I noticed the modern/Asian decor in the lobby-breakfast area. Then, we got into our room and I thought I had entered into another dimension where I entered inside the room of another hotel. The decoration had a sort of 80's-bad-attempt-at-country theme. However, I do want to be fair in my review and have to also mention that everything in the room appeared to be in good and/or working condition. They were not skimpy with the towels either. There were enough towels in the room for four people even though it was a room with just one king size bed. There was enough space in the room for a small couch and I wished the room had one, but I think we probably got unlucky and got the only room with a chair instead of a small couch. The room also had a desk with an office chair. I did not come to this hotel to work but I did use the chair later during my stay and it was plenty uncomfortable. The room had a small window that did not open and it was a little on the dark side. The TV in the room was a little small and not really centered with the bed but it worked during our whole stay. The hotel had four floors and two elevators which appeared to be new and which worked during our whole stay. The customer service was excellent. From the moment we valet parked our car to the moment we left, we felt that the hotel employees were really working hard at their jobs and at providing good customer service. The front desk employees were very courteous and efficient at checking us in. The breakfast room employees kept the area clean and well stocked. There was always fresh coffee in the lobby. The room maids were also good at keeping our room and bathroom extremely clean. One day we got back to our room when Lillie was still cleaning our room. She was really working hard at getting our room ready and clean. She was very courteous and full of energy. The location of the hotel could not be improved. If you want or need to stay in downtown St. Petersburg, this is the place to stay. There were lots of restaurants and some shops at a walking distance to the hotel. Muvico is practically one block away. The Dali museum was about a half mile away. The Saturday morning market was two blocks away. There is also a nice park alongside the bay which is one block from the hotel. It was nice to walk during the afternoon and watch the pelicans dive bombing for fish.
