I want to say I agree with the other reviews. This is a lovely 1920's style hotel. But, I would like to remind people when they book a room here, though the rooms have been remodled certain equipment has not been added so if you have special needs, please contact the front desk before making your reservation. That being said, we booked a suite for the weekend which was just the right size for the 4 of us. Our son slept in the room with the sofa bed. The sofa bed though not wonderful was perfect for a small child. I would not reccomend it for an adult however. Both rooms were quite large. The living room had it's own bath (a standing shower, a sink and a toilet) it was also home to a writing desk, the sleeper sofa, a tv, a microwave and a small refrigerator. The bedroom was home to a beautiful king size bed, the mattress was nothing wonderful, personally i would have loved a pillow top or one of those new feather pads, but, it wasn't the worst either. There was also the full sized bath, a closet, a dresser, and a TV. This hotel is within walking distance of most everything down town and if you get tired of walking you can pick up the looper trolly for 25 cents per person per ride. The Pier hotel is also about a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk of Tropicana Field where the Devil Rays play.
Now, for the reviewer who but a "?" by the cocktail hour I would like everyone to know it is some red and white wine and assorted beers with some nuts, popcorn and goldfish to munch on. Given that I dont know any hotels that even offer this service I would not question getting it as a perk.
now, the breakfast is not a hot breakfast like you would receive at a B&B but, if you fill up on ceral, oatmeal and bread products it is just fine. There is also coffee, hot chocolate and assorted teas out all day to enjoy.
My family really enjoyed the stay, especially my son who grabbed bubble gum everytime we walked by the front desk.
