I want to say I agree with the other reviews. This is a lovely 1920's style hotel. But, I would like to remind people when they book a room here, though the rooms have been remodled certain equipment has not been added so if you have special needs, please contact the front desk before making your reservation. That being said, we booked a suite for the weekend which was just the right size for the 4 of us. Our son slept in the room with the sofa bed. The sofa bed though not wonderful was perfect for a small child. I would not reccomend it for an adult however. Both rooms were quite large. The living room had it's own bath (a standing shower, a sink and a toilet) it was also home to a writing desk, the sleeper sofa, a tv, a microwave and a small refrigerator. The bedroom was home to a beautiful king size bed, the mattress was nothing wonderful, personally i would have loved a pillow top or one of those new feather pads, but, it wasn't the worst either. There was also the full sized bath, a closet, a dresser, and a TV. This hotel is within walking distance of most everything down town and if you get tired of walking you can pick up the looper trolly for 25 cents per person per ride. The Pier hotel is also about a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk of Tropicana Field where the Devil Rays play.
Now, for the reviewer who but a "?" by the cocktail hour I would like everyone to know it is some red and white wine and assorted beers with some nuts, popcorn and goldfish to munch on. Given that I dont know any hotels that even offer this service I would not question getting it as a perk.
now, the breakfast is not a hot breakfast like you would receive at a B&B but, if you fill up on ceral, oatmeal and bread products it is just fine. There is also coffee, hot chocolate and assorted teas out all day to enjoy.
My family really enjoyed the stay, especially my son who grabbed bubble gum everytime we walked by the front desk.

For the combination of it's quaint charm and remarkable value, the Pier Hotel has no equal. The staff is attentive and the rooms are clean and bright. It's location is central to all of St. Petersburg's main attractions. The free Continental breakfast, and Happy Hour on the large front porch, only add to what was already an exceptional experience!

Haveing lived in the Tampa Bay area for many years, I have been witness to the rebirth of St Petersburg. St. Pete has come a long way replacing all that is old with a classic modern ideology befitting a city of the 21st century. In some instances what is old is new again, and this is a wonderful thing.
One such instance is the Pier Hotel.
Upon entering I felt like I had stepped back in time both in architecture and spirit. Oringinaly built in the 1920's, this hotel has been remarkably restored to its original granduer. The staff, Rick Hoe, Kan and Jane make you feel like you are a guest in thier home rather than in a hotel. Even the housekeeping staff went out of thier way to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing. Immediatly you realise that they really care about your stay, your not a room number but a real person with a name. The rooms are equipped with all modern ammenities but with a classic feel. Original claw-foot tubs adorn some rooms and all rooms have high-speed internet access. My room #212 located in the front corner of the building was spacious, clean and Very comfortable, with a King size bed I'd be glad to have in my home.
Located in downtown St. Pete your within a couple of blocks to beautiful parks, shops, restaurants and the Tampa Bay. The Pier Hotel is also very convienient to interstae access, Tampa International airport and Downtown Tampa and Sarasota.
Although there are other hotels in the area, this is my hotel. This is where i will stay when staying in St.Pete, I'll send all family and bussiness associates there also. This hotel is a true gem and a MUST STAY when in the Tampa Bay area!!!

We usually stay at motels, not a hotel. Staying there was a very pleasant surprise. We have never stayed where there was a "Happy Hour" in a lovely room with drinks and munchies for the guests. We also enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evening. The complimentary breakfast was also a treat with a variety of foods. Our room was attractive and comfortable. One of the most outstanding things was the desk staff who went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. You can feel free to ask them for directions or advice about the area. This hotel makes you feel "at home."

We chose The Pier Hotel for its accessibility to BayWalk, The Pier, restaurants, etc. and some of the reader reviews - reviews were accurate about the friendly and efficient staff, the continental breakfast and cocktail hour(?) - but - this hotel needs to be updated on what guests expect from their room amenities - the bed linens were old and worn, pillows and mattresses were barely acceptable - the bathroom was treacherous! - claw foot tub with makeshift shower curtain - no grab bars to hold on to getting in and out of tub -(we are not elderly) no place to store toiletries - I'm surprised AAA gave it a *** rating- this was actually unsafe - the breakfast and cocktail hour was minimal - we had breakfast out on our last day and skipped the free "cocktails" and went out and bought our own at the many wonderful restaurants/bars within walking distance. -

We like quaint and old fashioned - have stayed in many bed and breakfasts and boutique hotels - but this was not what we expected.

Lastly, our room on the first floor (thank goodness we didn't have to walk to the third floor with all our luggage) had windows looking out onto the apartment's porch next door and we had to keep the blinds down all day - which added to the gloomy decor.
