Description: This is a relatively new restaurant in the South Pasadena area. In earlier years Leverocks was one of the best seafood restaurants in west central Florida. However, the company went into bankruptcy and the new management have done a poor job. Ate at this restaurant with friends in February 2012. It was terrible!!! Fish was overcooked and greasy. Warn people to stay away from this restaurant. It's expensive and a waste of money.

Great food, and not just seafood! The New England clam chowder is excellent! A very friendly staff. Expect to have to wait, as this place is very popular, but they do take call-aheads. Plenty of parking. The bar and lounge area are small. A great value!

“Terrible disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I used to live in Pinellas County, and what was then called Johnny Leverock's was my favorite seafood restaurant. We just tried this branch on Pasadena after an absence of over 15 years, and had a terrible experience. Where to start?

1. They have signs all over the place promoting their New England clam chowder for $3.99, so I figured it might be better than average. But knowing that most restaurants make it with corn starch (instead or cream and potato), I asked the waitress if it had corn starch, and she said "no". It turned out to be nothing but a flavorless mass of corn starch, with a token bit of clam thrown in. I returned it, of course.

2. The waitress got all huffy about my returning the soup, and gave us awful "service" after that, even though I was very polite about returning it. When the check arrived, the chowder was still on it. Accident? No: when I pointed it out, the waitress's reaction told me she was purposely trying to put one over on me.

3. The menu features the endangered Chilean Sea Bass, which all ethical restaurants have long since stopped serving. Worse, they also serve it as "butterfish", apparently so they'll be able to keep getting away with serving it after environmentally-conscious customers demand the removal of sea bass from the menu. Just plain sleazy.

4. I ordered their "San Francisco" plate of fish, scallops, and shrimp. The fish and scallops were OK (but one of the scallops was old and tasted of ammonia), but the shrimp was ancient and had been soaked in bleach to preserve it. If you like the taste of Clorox, Leverock's is the place for you.

All in all, one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time.

“Look for another restaurant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Our experience as locals has always been good with restaurants in the area; this was the exception to the rule! It started off with a 'call ahead' to the restaurant for seating (kinda like a reservation) for 7:15pm on Thursday. I arrived at 6:55pm with a party of 5ppl and was told 20 minutes; I waited for 1hr before I was sat at a booth for 4ppl with an extra chair in the busy aisle. The waitress Debbie was the best waitress I have ever had, but the quality of food and the prices made the trip there worse than the wait! I asked to speak with the manager but she was too busy that night. I will never return!! **STAY AWAY***

“Fantastic food, great service!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

We went here for dinner last night. Fantastic seafood (although the menu was extensive and included steak, chicken, pasta etc) I had a fantastic crab cake and small lobster tail (a combo not on the menu, but our waiter sorted it with no faff!) and my friend had the most enormous lobster tail and declared it devine! I can also highly recommend the lobster bisque to start ..... Sublime.
The service was excellent and I was surprised it wasn't busy, even on a Saturday night (perhaps because it is a bit away from the beach) would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. They also take reservations even on the weekend.

“Worth the trip not worth the hype”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Off the beaten path but yet close to the strip. Atmosphere was comfortable but seating was designed for the masses. Food was above average with knowledgeable and curtious staff. There does seem to be fresh fish here...there does not seem to be a lot of locally caught fresh fish here. It was a nice meal. Nothing extremely special but nothing bad either.
