My husband and I just had dinner at the Brasserie last night to celebrate our anniversary. We both like to cook and have a limited entertaining budget, so we are fairly discriminating about going out to eat and sometimes opt to eat at home when we feel we can top the experience and food offered at a restaurant. We have only been in St. Pete for a year, and we chose the Brasserie really just based on the atmosphere of the place when we took a walk down Central Avenue one night. Just a hunch we had.
Our decision was hugely rewarded, from the way the owner, Justin, took the time to stop at our table and tell us about the food, and the attentive service of our waiter, Leslie. That would have made it a charming experience in itself. But when our food came it was honestly some of the best food and presentation we have experienced in any restaurant we have visited in the world.
I ordered the chicken at Justin's recommendation and it was melt-in-your-mouth tender. It came with a flavorful sauce of chard and white beans that was a compliment to the crispy skin of the chicken. It was accented by a final addition of pork belly.
My husband ordered the pork special, a lean and flavorful piece of meat with a crackling bite of deliciousness. It came with greens and what I considered to be the best part of the dish, a generous serving of cheesy grits.
But don't leave it to me, a mere mortal, to describe how good the food was. Stop in and try it yourself. You will NOT be disappointed.
As I said, the portions are generous. I just wish I had had enough room to have one of the delectable desserts I saw others in the room enjoying.
