Don't get me wrong, there's nothing terrible about this hotel...it's just a little strange.
Hotel Indigo is located in Downtown North of St Petersburg. The actual block it's on is quite run down - there's nothing else there...just lots of chain-fenced land and hotels or guesthouses that have closed. And homeless people.
However, it's literally a 5minute walk to Central Avenue where all the restaurants / bars / life is. We didn't like the area the hotel was in - it didn't feel particularly safe walking there at night - but it was very convenient.
HOTEL / ROOM
The lobby is fine - had a bar (which we didn't use) and lots of seating plus a porch area outside with further seating. Our room was on the third floor - we'd booked a Suite. There is an ancient lift that gradually cranks you up to your floor. The corridors are...er...GREEEEEN! They've gone for funky decor which is fine - best way to describe it is it's how a kid would decorate a hotel. GREEEEEEEEN. PIIIIIIIINK. Squiggles everywhere.
Our Suite was basically a large square room with..you've guessed it...green and pink sofas, green and pinks walls and (thankfully) laminate wood flooring. There was a musty-mouldy damp smell when we first arrived - fine once you've cranked the air con for 10 minutes, but always lurking under the surface never-the-less.
The room was massive, it felt like the furniture was too small for the room. But even with all this space, there was only a teeny, tiny shower room with an extractor that sounded like an Apache helicopter was about to land every time you turned on the light.
It was all very clean...it just felt a little 'sad'. Like someone was trying really hard to make it bright and airy, but it was actually a bit tired.
And even though the room was big, we found it quite claustraphobic. Not somewhere you can chill out and relax.
All in all, I'd say this would be a great little hotel for an overnight stay if you're in town for a sports event - but it's not somewhere to stay as part of a break / holiday.
