“Absolutely lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

The Birchwood is a really cute local hotel across the street from the water in St. Petersburg. We wanted to stay here for all our nights in St. Pete on our honeymoon, but they are so popular that we could only get one night. It was a fantastic night though. We were upgraded to a posh suite with a small balcony overlooking the street and the water. The four poster bed was so plush, and the bathroom was roomy, antique yet modern. We also liked the complimentary bottle of Voss water and little complimentary chocolates. There are also robes that you can use.

The Birch and Vine is the hotel restaurant and like the rest of the hotel is pretty swanky. Everyone raves about the rooftop bar, The Canopy. There is also a meeting or party space on the 4th floor, which sometimes you can hear on the 3rd floor, but it's a small price to pay for such a lovely hotel.

I really liked the complimentary breakfast, which includes hot foods in addition to the usual continental stuff. There is only a valet parking option, which costs about $20 per night. The Birchwood is somewhat pricey but completely worth it. Highly recommended!

Canopy Great Food there great.
BUT
We arrived at 6pm for our valentines reservation in the ballroom. We were seated and no server came to our table we sat waiting for 15 minutes. It was not very busy at this time. My boyfriend mentioned I wonder who our server is? A server across from us heard us. Sever came to our table took our order and told us he will find out who our server will be. Thomas then returned and told us it would be him. We had the Ahi Tuna Carpaccio this dish was very bland. Server stopped by our table and I asked if the small plates were for bread. I should not have had to ask. The Birchwood Vertical Gardens salad some of the lettuce was wilted. I ordered the lobster tail which looked like it was cut in half and the risotto was undercooked. I asked for the filet instead. I was not pleased with the service. My boyfriend took the time to make this Valentine's Special for me. It was very disappointed. We have dined at the birchwood before. We will no long dine at the Birchwood

I picked The Birchwood because of its location on Beach Avenue and proximity to St. Petersburg's buzzing restaurant and art scene. It was a great location and a lovely stay.

We dined both outdoors and at the indoor fine dining restaurant. The rooftop bar is a trendy scene but very lively and fun. The service and staff is top notch. They go out of their way to accommodate requests:

We asked to move rooms and they did so without a question, even an upgrade because they had a cancellation. They did not charge us for the upgrade. The rooms are pretty but lack some extra lighting that would accentuate the lovely furnishings and design in the room. The bathrooms are spacious and beautiful.

On a busy Saturday night they accommodated our party of 5 in the main restaurant away from a large group of 15 who had become front and center on the noise front. It is generally a busy beat, so expect some elevated noise levels on the weekend.

The complimentary breakfast buffet was nice and basic but lacked some attention to keeping it properly stocked throughout the serving times in the morning.

Overall, I would recommend The Birchwood because it is a great renovation of an older historic property, the staff are very accommodating and friendly, the food was good, and the location was terrific.

Having visited downtown St Pete several times to eat at the many restaurants along Beach Drive we decided to stay there for Gasparilla weekend. There was an art festival right across the street from the hotel under the Banyan trees.

We were in a suite on the 3rd floor with windows into the atrium. It was noisy until 10pm from the rooftop bar and then quieted down to a whisper. The room was comfortable but the layout was odd due to the location in the building. You opened the door to the bed and the bathroom was accessible through double doors in the bedroom so you couldn't get away from the bathroom. There was no luggage rack to put my small suit case so it went on the floor.

Missing a star bc parking is tricky...there is none. You have to pull into a 30min loading zone located in front of the hotels sidewalk restaurant and pick your way through tables with luggage to hand your keys to the front desk staff or park in the side alley quickly making your way to the front desk so they may move your car to their garage. Is this a big deal? No. Staff was gracious and never batted an eye as many times as we requested our car to be brought back or parked for us. Boutique hotel means no "doorman" but you still lose the star for the absences of service.

Room Tip: Wasn't thrilled about the layout of 307 so I would avoid 307, 207 and 107. The door opens to the...

My husband and I took out of town guests to The Birchwood last night, and we're delighted by the entire experience. This gem has a beautiful rooftop lounge with a beautiful view of St. Petersburg and comfy couches and fire pits. The dining room downstairs is quiet and beautiful. Our service was terrific. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Tuesday's is half price appetizers and bottles of wine. Although we intended to have dinner, we ended up ordering 8 appetizers, a bottle of Shiraz, and 2 salads to share. Every dish was delicious. Best calamari I've ever had. Can't wait to return.

We stayed at The Birchwood for a weekend to attend a wedding. It was a beautiful hotel and the staff was exceptional. Everyone we interacted with seemed to really care and want us to be comfortable. The decor was stunning in every area of the hotel. The rooms are decadent. The huge beds and claw foot tubs wonderful at the end of a long day. The one downside was the noise from the rooftop bar (The Canopy). We could here the noise all night. Luckily we were usually part of the party, but if we hadn't been it would have been really frustrating. Some of our party had rooms on the front side of the hotel and didn't hear the noise so perhaps that would be a better option if you are sensitive to noise. We had a wonderful time at the hotel and would definitely stay there again if we ever make it back to St. Pete.

Room Tip: Get a room on the front side of the hotel if noise bothers you so you don't hear the partying at...

Sometimes creative words are needed to expound on the traits of a place, not here! Bring your senses and they will pleasantly appeased! Great weather, amazing views, attentive staff, inviting rooms, delicious food and creative libations to help you engage in stimulating conversations at the Canopy (Roof Top Bar).
