“Hip and Happening Spot in a revitalized St. Petersburg, FL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Birchwood is in a prime location for anyone wanting to visit the newly revitalized downtown St. Petersburg. As Florida resident for over 28 years I was shocked to see the change in this city. The Birchwood is a great location to explore and enjoy. This new 18 room boutique hotel was trendy and chic. clean and comfortable. There is a noise issue due to the size of the hotel and it being one of the hottest spots in town. However, it was not a problem for us. Breakfast included is a nice touch. Parking is an issue here and is valet only. Once your are here, your car can rest as there is plenty to do in the area within walking distance. Museums, galleries, shopping, sailing, even a small beach on the shores of the bay.

There are two restaurants at this small place plus they have spots for larger gatherings The Canopy lounge is the coolest place, hands down, as they made great use of their roof top with prime views of Tampa Bay, fire pits, couches and casual seating. The Birch and Vine Restaurant is top notch with great service and interesting food combinations. Once again, great outdoor seating and people watching. A place for foodies!

Big recommend on this one.

I just wanted to give a Buyer Beware when you stay at The Birchwood in St.Petersburg. The property is lovely and the rooftop lounge is fun and very nicely done. We stayed for two nights and had many service problems. The staff was genuinely friendly, but there were not enough staff to cover the many jobs upon check in and other peak times during a weekend visit in a high end hotel. We discovered a horrible smell that grew in the evening and into the night. We called down to the front desk to hear that they knew of this problem and we could move to another room if we wanted to come down and get the keys at 130AM. I asked that they bring them up (this should not have been needed) and so they did. No offer to help move us in the middle of the night. So we made three trips to get our things into the new room. No follow up at all. This and the parking dilemna were shortfalls of a hotel commanding close to 300 a night. We are impressed by the upgrades to the building and what it brings to St.Pete, but basic service lacked in many ways. When we brought this to the attention of the Owner, he merely backed his staff and offered nothing for a apology. I guess they are figuring that so many people will grace his property that it will not be necessary to have repeat customers. We will not be one after this visit.

Room Tip: Stay across the park at the Vinoy and have proper service for the dollar.

We booked two rooms here to attend a wedding. The hotel Public spaces are beautiful. The Canopy outdoor rooftop deck and bar area has a fantastic view of the St Pete harbor and yacht basin.
The rooms are over the top gorgeous! Huge super comfy beds and every detail is so perfect! The bath tubs are deep soaking claw foot tubs. The showers have over head rain shower heads. The rooms are quiet and the black out curtains let you sleep anytime.

We would definitely return to this lovely hotel!

We tried dinner at the Brichwood restaurant the other day. On the plus side is the lovely patio with heaters for cool nights. Great spot to sit.

Initial greeting and seating was pleasant and quick. Drinks order took a while. Appetizer-spring rolls was delicious. I ordered hangar steak $27.00 after being told it was a less tender steak that was marinated so it was tender and delicious...which it was NOT. I ordered medium well and the center was bordering on rare. It was rubbery and tough The cooked greens it came with were cold. It came with a little cast iron dish of diced potatoes that were underdone and very greasy. My husband ordered a medium New York steak $31 which arrived cold and rare as did the vegetables and potatoes. He sent it back and the next one came out ....Rare again. I realise that chefs have different ideas about rare and medium but seeing that the customer felt the first steak to be too rare, he should have ensured the second steak was cooked more than the first. The manager did come to ask if all was ok, but that was after the first bite from the end which seemed medium. In the end he couldn't eat the 2nd one either. The waiter took the steak off the bill, which we waited almost 15 minutes to get.

This is my third time here. First time was great. Second, my food wasn;t great but friends enjoyed theirs. Third time was not good. The people beside us also did not like their food and I overheard them discussing it.

This restaurant has the location and the fabulous building going for it. The Canopy rooftop bar is a great place to start out the night for a drink, but I would take my dining dollars to one of the other restaurants along Beach instead. It's a shame because I really wanted to love it.

I attend a work function in St. Pete each tea and usually stay at the Vinoy. This year, I stayed at the Birchwoord based on the recommendation from a friend. As others have said, I will never stay anywhere else but the Birchwood in the future. The hotel is brand new and they outdid themselves in design and decoration. The rooms are stunning, the restaurant food and service is wonderful, and the rooftop bar (Canopy) is great for evening drinks or watching games on TV. But, as others have stated, it is the hotel staff and service that make this hotel a standout. I have my own stories like the other reviewers about the "above and beyond" boutique service. A special shout out to Eddie at the front desk who is the best example of someone who understands what going the extra mile means to guests. I also appreciate the car service the hotel uses for airport runs. "Big Mike" was my driver and came 30 minutes early in the morning because he knew there was a lot of fog delaying traffic to the airport. The hotel owner built a world class boutique hotel but that wouldn't mean much if the staff wasn't equally "boutique" - an amazing experience.

BEST hotel I've ever stayed in and I consider myself a bit of a hotel snob. Impeccable style, service, cleanliness and location. I will never stay anywhere else when visiting St. Pete. In love with this hotel! Example of the service: went for a walk after breakfast to the farmers market and it started to rain. The manager met us at the front door with towels upon our return. Who does that?! Love, love, love this place!

This is a lovely boutique hotel in downtown St Pete right by the park, the water and all the restaurants. The room was lovely, comfortable and clean. Service was outstanding throughout. Parking is done by their valet. Roof top bar was fun too. I'd recommend this nice little gem.

Room Tip: 301 was spacious and comfortable.
