“Stay at Dickens House if you're looking for the perfect bed and breakfast at St Petersburg FL !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2009

Dickens House is a beautifully renovated arts&crafts style house right in the center of St Petersburg historic district. The innkeeper is a very nice guy, makes a really nice homemade breakfast in the morning and very entertaining. We stayed in the orange blossom room : the cutest small but very nice room under the attic, with a convenient bathroom with bubblebath. Stay here if you would really like to feel welcome in St Petersburg, enjoy a gourmet home made breakfast, a good conversation and if you love those historic houses.

The B&B is in a great location on a quiet street but still within easy walking distance of downtown St. Petersburg. The owner, Ed, was very welcoming and made our stay very comfortable. He was very knowledgeable about the goings on in St. Pete as well as full of information about the local history and lore of this quaint city. The room was clean and comfortable. The highlight of the stay was Ed's personally prepared breakfast. From the fresh seasonal fruit to the delicious main course the meal was truly to die for. We'll be back if we ever decide to stay in St. Petersburg again.

My 2 sisters and I do a weekend winter escape each year to a different town. This was our first time in St. Petersburg, and we loved the Dickens House. It's the best B&B we've stay in - by far! We spent 3 nights there in the Cottage Suite - perfect for three (a queen & a single bed with a nice, big bathroom.)

Ed Caldwell is the owner/cook/cruise director. He did a wonderful job renovating the house. It's beautiful. His breakfasts are delicious. Everyone sits around a big round table where he introduces guests to one another and offers advice on things to do that day. When we told him we were going kayaking at Fort DeSoto Park, he packed us a tote bag with three fluffy beach towels. He also suggested a rooftop bar (Hurricane) in St. Pete Beach we could go post-kayak to watch the sunset on the way home. It made for a perfect day.

The location of the Dickens House is great too. St. Petersburg is very walkable. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk to the Pier. Or about 5 minutes to walk to a trolley stop where you can take the 25 cent trolley.

We stayed at the Dickens House last week for 2 nights and found it to be a very nice Bed and Breakfast indeed. Tastefully decorated for the holidays was added plus. Ed the proprietor is very familiar with the area, including restaurants, and can assist in planning your day events. Located within walking distance of several tourist attractions, and what limited shopping and restaurants there are in St. Pete, it is very well maintained with pride of ownership showing throughout. Nicely prepared breakfast is included, on-street parking not a problem.

Everything about the Dickens House B & B is fabulous. Ed, the innkeeper, has not only meticulously restored his beautiful arts and crafts home, but also has applied this meticulousness to every aspect of a guest's stay. . . the greeting at the door, the rooms, the breakfast. We stayed in the smallest room, but it still was very pleasant. The bathroom was great, with quality bath products, towels, and fixtures. The bed and bedding was comfortable. It has a small refrigerator and tv with cable, which was very thoughful. The Inn is very close to the downtown, which is beautiful and has a lot of restaurant choices (Ceviche Tapas was fabulous). They are all within safe walking distance. The house is decorated beautifully at Christmas. Just can't say enough.

I was referred to Dickens House by a colleague, we travel together for business occasionally and she had stayed there previously. What a refreshing change from the usual corporate hotel, and for Florida, the price was great.

Dickens House is perfectly comfortable, my room had everything I needed as a business traveler. I must admit, my colleague and I worked less than we normally would have because our host Ed had left us with wine, cookies and a lovely front porch on a lovely evening. Therefore, I can't comment on the wifi service.

I would recommend this B&B for business or pleasure. I wish I could have stayed longer, the house is very inviting with beautiful landscaping, lots of interesting books, and a very walkable neighborhood. The breakfast was very nice as well, french toast with homemade bread!

Our host was very helpful and I'm sure would be of assistance if anything was needed. He seemed to have prepared for our every need, though!

We were in need of a restful relaxing vacation. We were very happy with the Dickens House as it provided us with exactly that. Great location and very well kept and clean rooms with interesting/lovely decor. We will definitely include Dickens House in future travel plans to the St. Petersburg area.
