We live nearly 2 hours inland from St. Pete and on the word of a friend decided to drive over and try Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish. I grew up in Jacksonville and ate a lot of home smoked mullet (when in season) as a child and have been in search of same since the little place we used to find it at Cortez (near Bradenton) closed. We arrived at around 3:00 and were immediately seated (we had a choice of indoor or out and chose inside). Ain't nothing fancy about this place but it is perfect for what it is! Service and food was wonderful. The menu is rather limited so if you don't like smoked fish or hamburgers, this place isn't for you. 3 of us had smoked mullet, 1 had the smoked mackerel, and 1 the hamburger. All portions were ample and came with delicious german potato salad & fresh cole slaw. The fish spread was the best we'd had and went quickly. We also had to have the frosty mug root beer (no diet available) and the frosty flavor was worthy of a glass, frozen mug! By way of warning, make sure to take CASH only as they don't accept checks or credit cards. We'll definitely drive over there again and take friends & family - Ted Peters' smoked fish is famous with good reason!
