After two nights (2nd one entirely unintended) nights at the PCI, we have no energy left to write all the details but feel obliged to put up this review to warn others. This was the first time I cried from misery due to what I went through at a hotel. In short just don't go here (burgers if the restaurant were ok, this review is of the hotel attached to the restaurant).
Excited for our first night on St Pete beach we checked in late evening at PCI. I booked this place on Priceline against all warning as I thought it would be refreshing after a lot of time spent at established old school hotels. How wrong was I.
The stairs going up the room were dirty, wet, and smelling of urine; we didn't mind. The room wasn't vacuumed, we didn't mind much. It's called the Postcard Inn because it's made of postcards, you will hear everyone all around you, TV, toilet, walking.. I camp a lot, tents are more soundproof-- but that too, we didn't mind. After all what can the staff do about that, right?
Then I got in the shower, the walls were covered in other people's hair, the shower curtain was stuck together with grime and dirt, the bathroom is very shabby but had it been clean I wouldn't have minded it, I got out of the shower, put the toilet seat down and it had brown stains on it. It was so so disgusting. Joey in the front desk apologized and said there was no staff it housekeeping ( just as there is minimal housekeeping, security is nonexistent -- more on that in a bit) to come clean the bathroom and we could go to another room, we had just spent an hour carrying things
up the stairs and were tired from driving too, we didn't want to move and carry things again, we thought we'll sleep and just leave in the morning.
Soon people were screaming and jumping through the floor. We called, Joey said he would send someone, noise went on for a long time -- crazy amount of noise.. till 4pm. Early morning we left the place disappointed we wouldn't be extending the booking on our current location, have to deal witb another hotel, carry stuff etc.
Late evening for the first time in about ten years I booked what I thought would be a solid 3 star hotel in St Pete -- fate has it that we got PCI again. I immediately called Priceline, literally begged them to cancel my booking and they called the hotel, spoke to Ashley explaining the situation and she and PCI refused to refund my booking made a few minutes ago. As it's not money we can afford to throw away we returned and were met with the most unwelcome registration desk. I wasn't even asking for a refund it anything but as I was trying to explain the situation and she kept saying she wouldn't be able to refund the booking, all I wanted was for her to know what we went through and put us in a clean room which wouldn't have an unreasonable amount of noise.
Once she realized this it seemed Ashley tried to give us a room that would be free of noise and dirt.
So apparently if you book with Priceline or any other third party you get the rooms
facing outside where people walk back and forth from the bar all night long. Again we got a room facing outside which we were promised would be quiet.
A couple of hours later I wake up with a huge bug crawling on me. I trap it and we called someone who took it and told us it's a love bug (it's not), Joey tells us it must be a grasshopper which we brought in with our clothes -- I guess it's a strategy to tell guests they brought the bugs in, but no we didn't bring him and it's not a grasshopper, it's a big bug that bit me (see pics). We spend an hour trying to look around and then get back to sleep, and then a fight among drunks breaks in front of our door -- this was kinda scary as people got threatening -- we call the front desk, they say they'll check on it. This takes a while. We ask for a late check out given we didn't sleep the night before and we were awake as of after 4 am -- Joey says he can't do this, we must call in the morning. If I wake up to call what's the point of a late check out. And why can't he just let the morning person know as they change shifts? But the nightmare isn't over.
At 8 am we wake up with the loudest grinding and drilling noise ever. They are repairing the railing which was falling apart, right outside our door. Clearly they planned for this ( we remember the railing area was cordoned off the night before, so it's not an emergency that just arose) , why put us into that room? We call and speak to Kendra at the front desk who tells us we can go sleep in one of the rooms in the front. Why didn't you put us there in the beginning? At this moment I'm crying and I tell her what happened since last night, she says "I know you stayed here last night and you didn't like it but you came back." I tell her That's not what happened and that Priceline called them to ask that they cancel our reservation and they declined. She says that did not happen and that that's not true basically calling me a liar. I call Priceline and Priceline calls the desk again and speaks to Kendra, but she still says Priceline didn't call her. I ask for the manager, she says she is the manager (and I learn later that she is a supervisor from the other Supervisor who is working there at the same time when I go to change the soiled towel they left in the room.) I insist and ask who her boss is, she says Victor, I ask for his last name but she won't tell me that -- saying everyone there knows who Victor is, I then ask for his card. Victor was MIA as of about 1pm.
We go to the other room. I am so tired and miserable, I go to the beach to relax and catch some sleep there as the front of the room is a play area with kids and I have no more energy left in me to ask for a quiet room, my partner who will need to drive is woken up in an hour as they decide they need to trim the trees with the loudest gasoline powered chainsaws -- a job that could have been done with gardener scissors easily.
Unless you sleep with drugs, and don't mind bathrooms falling apart, and want to get drunk and stumble back to your place go elsewhere, a lot of places around for less -- I have no idea how and why this no star place is listed as 3 stars. Beware don't book a hidden deal in St Pete beach, Treasure island for a 3 star hotel as you may get this place.
