“More of a family place than for adults traveling without kids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Full disclosure, we travel mostly to all-inclusive adults-only resorts, and that definitely colors our view of the place. We probably would not have booked here were it not for a conference my husband attended. There were a LOT of kids and families here. It seems to be known locally as a place to bring your whole family for a stay. The pools are tiny and we could not get near them for the kids. There is one adult pool but it too gets quite crowded, and there is no poolside service, so abandoned drinks litter the edge of the pool the later in the day it gets. However, the beach is heavenly. There are no umbrellas or shady areas anywhere except a handful of patio tables and the beach cabanas.

Pros

One free cabana per room, though they start breaking them down at 3 and if you leave your stuff unattended, they will break it down
Clean, nice room
Resort Transportation nice and efficient, if pricey
Nicely stocked kitchenette with fridge, microwave, toaster, dishes, dish soap and linens.
Coin-op laundry is available, though locked from 9p to 9a. Why lock it that long if not trying to force people to use hotel laundry?

Cons

Bars all close at 10 or 11 except Beef O'Brady's

We did not have an ocean view room. Unfortunately, that meant we had no view at all. Our tiny (floor to ceiling, but only one foot wide) window gave onto the hallway, so it had to stay closed or anyone in the hallway could see in. So no natural light. Bummer. Most if not all rooms (and windows) I saw open onto exterior hallways. If you want a private balcony make sure it says that, otherwise you might get a shared one which is really just some tables and chairs in an exterior hallway.

Prices are not outrageous, but being used to all inclusives, we did feel nickel and dimed. You do pay for absolutely everything here, except your alloted beach cabana. The food is not outrageous, but was expensive enough that the conference guests my husband was with complained to the hotel after the first day that they were government employees whose per diem allowances did not come close to covering the cost of on-site food. The hotel worked out a deal with them where deli tables were set up in the lobby thereafter for their lunches.

Concierge was useless. Could they make us a reservation at the fancy steakhouse down the street? No. Call ahead and place our name on the list while we walk? No. Arrange a cruise? Here's a brochure. Where do we get public transport downtown? Here's a map! They should replace this useless department with a brochure display.

This is just my personal preference talking here but I like to get dressed up at night and have a quiet drink and a late dinner and/or late drinks. This is not the place to dress up or eat late. Nobody dresses here, and it's a long walk over bridges, cobblestones and puddly poolsides to restaurants, so if you're thinking about bringing heels, I wouldn't. Also, attempting to eat later than 9 is probably going to land you at Beef O'Bradys, which is just kind of a sloppy sports bar.

Close to a few restaurants but not to downtown ($60 round trip or public transport which stops at 5p). There is a local car service that works for tips only, but the hotel does not publicize it. We learned of it too late from another guest.

Restaurants

There is only one what I would call "really nice" restaurant, the Palm Court. We loved it and tried to go a second time but they would not seat us past 9p (they close at 10). We were pretty incredulous at this and took our money off the resort that night. If you are a foodie, Chophouse 1200 is a must. It's within walking distance.

Second-best restaurant is Bermudas. We ate there twice for breakfast and dinner and the food and service were good.

Flying Bridge had good food but is open air (hot) and the tables are very close and loud.

Lunch at Beef O'Brady's was vile. There is another kid place we did not try. Pizza Hut is just a counter with no tables, so it's carry outside only.

Room Tip: If you want a private balcony or ocean view make sure you specifically book them

Russell Chesser gave outstanding and prompt service when our televisions were not properly working. He arrived within minutes of our phone call and took care of the issue in less than five minutes. He was very polite and courteous, thanks!

My family checked in at 3:00 p.m. on July 10, 2013 and checked out at 3:30 p.m. the same day. We drove 1 hour to the Hyatt on Clearwater Beach for a fantastic stay. Tradewinds was overcrowded and noisy. The room had paper thin walls and we could clearly hear the cursing going on in the room beneath us during our 30 minute stay. Safety was also a concern since the room door was to the outside of the building. The beach was overcrowded and the lines were long for the slides. We were looking for a relaxing stay and Tradewinds was not that place for us.

Three stays at Tradewinds Island Grand have been memorable. Every person whom we encountered exhibited those characteristics that one would associate with true professionals.
Our accomodations were exceptional. The facility has almost everything that a family or a business person would need: restaurants, recreational facilities, meeting rooms, and the beach.
We were guests of the facility in June 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Room Tip: Gulf view rooms are a treat.

We expected 4 stars accommodations, instead we got a room that has roaches. We booked our vacation through Priceline, they gave us a standard room with no view so we upgraded to a gulf view room in the Breckinridge building for an additional $75 per night, the room was spacious and had a kitchenette. As soon as we settled in the room other inhabitants came

Resort has all the amenities you need. Staff is friendly and very accommodating, maintenance staff is very responsive. Rooms are clean and well appointed. Beach is great. Plenty of places to eat on the premises and in surrounding area. Lots of entertainment for the kids, a bit high priced but it does not disappoint. Definitely recommend for families or couples. The fourth of July banquet and celebration was very good albeit high priced. Lots of cabanas but make sure you reserve one every night at 5PM.

Room Tip: Our room was in the Breckenridge area and it was quiet but the sun does filter in early.Curtains are...

We tried to book a roon in the Tradewinds main resort only were told that Guy Harvey was part of it and would be very nice too. The people there were only the room was not. We had six staying in a room that would be pushing it with four and we paid a lot for our room. Over all things were nice but we think it was too expensive to stay at the Guy Harvey because of the room size and cost.
Also the cost of the drinks and food were very high making it hard to want to eat at the hotel

Room Tip: Stay only at the Tradewinds main resort or deal wtih Guy Harvey to see if you can get your room a lo...
