The Don Cesar is a lovely "old school" hotel, stylish and graceful in appearance. The beach is "near perfection" white soft sand. My husband and I had booked a Queen Suite well in advance for our recent stay there but upon arrival we were told that they had no rooms available at the hotel for the duration of our stay. They took the liberty of putting us in another of their locations several blocks from the hotel called Beach Suites by Don Cesar. We were told that we were welcome to use the facilities at the hotel as if we were staying at the hotel and that there was 24 hour room service available to us. As it turned out there was not only no 24 hour room service there was NO room service. It was not convenient to use their facilities (restaurants, lounges, pools, beaches) because we were not on their property. Although the Beach Suites had their own pool, beach bar and access to the beach it was a far cry from the level of accommodations of the actual hotel. I say in conclusion, by all means, I recommend the hotel Don Cesar but just make darn sure before arriving that they actually have you booked in a room or suite at the hotel property and not one of their "off property" locations.

The chef is true to his mission for utilizing local seafood in a creative and flavorful way, well prepared dishes, outstanding presentations from what we observed on the tables of our fellow diners. The staff is well trained and attentive without being obtrusive, thanks. One day, we would like to come back to try the "Prix Fixe," 5 course meal. The staff made the experience outstanding, the small samplings from the menu that we ate were excellent. Good wine list and we had a glass of the house red blend that was very good.

We have been coming to the "Don" for over 25 years. The previous restaurants in this classic hotel were a cut above the Maritana Grille in "poshness" and sadly the Maritanna is only one at present but the staff and chef make it a memorable time.

If you drive to dine, use the valet parking, the parking lot could sour your excellent experience.

The placement of the ticket machine is so far back, you have to get out of your car to get the ticket spit out of the machine, same for exiting and the pass issued by the restaurant didn't work either, and we were not the only ones. We noticed when we came in the was line of 5 or more cars waiting to exit because of the machine problem.

It's sad, really when what was a wonderful time and a restaurant review is overshadowed by the parking lot snafu.

Beautiful location and hotel . Was greeted at door with a smile and welcome but soon turned to disappointment when they said we would have to stay in one room one night and another the next, another lady was having same problem as us and was ripping them a new one , lol.she had everyones attention on the first floor. They did upgrade it to a suite. While it wasn't that big a deal to me it was for the wife, lol. The suite is nice with a tiny view of the ocean but it didn't make up for her griping about having to unpack and pack stuff back up so we could move the next day.Our nine year old liked it because it did have an extra tv..Well the next morning I get a call that our other room is ready.so we load everything up and go to other side of hotel. The new room was a third the size of the suite but did have a better view. Evidently none of the rooms have refrigerators or microwaves. So a little heads up. Nothing is free here , so bring money, lots of it if you want anything on property. The service and help are very good from the time you step in the door but you will pay for it..The beach is great but there again two chairs and umbrella are 45.00 a day. The food is very good but a typical dinner for three will be over 120.00 .there is a service charge on everything plus the tip. We did have a good time except for the changing of the room which came off like they were doing us a favor. A good tip if laying on beach is to have a kid to chase off the birds,

Thanks for your honest feedback!

We appreciate your patience in the room move and glad you ended up with a room with a great view (even though the room was a little smaller). I also appreciate the shout out to our staff for being very helpful during your stay.

We hope to welcome you back in the near future.....be sure to bring the kids to keep those birds away!

The hotel is already very expensive - we paid 400 $ per night. The more we were shocked by the additional cost every corner: 25$ Resort fee which doesnt include anything you need. You still pay extra for parking and a beach chair... It felt like a robbery... Never again.

Thank you for your feedback!

I am sorry that you left feeling that way about our resort fee. The charge does actually include a number of activities (sometimes 16 per day). We have everything from morning yoga and fruit by the pool to water aerobics, chilled towels and even dive-in movies! Maybe some interest you, maybe not...we try to have something for everyone. If you have any ideas, we're always open for suggestions.

I do hope you at least had the chance to enjoy our beautiful beaches, beautiful setting and friendly service.

Historic hotel on the beach that lives up to its reputation. Rooms are not overly spacious but are quite comfortable. Our room on the fourth floor overlooked the pools and did have a limited view of ocean. The staff for the most part were very good and friendly. The housekeeping staff were the best and always greeted us whenever we approached. Bell staff opened doors and were helpful as was our concierge who made great recommendations for dinners off property. Michael, pool staff was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. Two negatives, the staff at the tequila bar were terrible both times we tried to go there. Walked by several times without stopping or even acknowledging us. We finally gave up and proceeded to the pool bar with hopes on having a snack and drink only to be told that food needed to be ordered at the tequila bar. Finally gave up and went off property for evening. Several small things would keep me from giving this hotel a five star although it strives to be one.

Room Tip: Our room on fourth floor facing courtyard was fine. Would have preferred a balcony.

Thanks for the valuable feedback!

I truly apologize for the lack of attention and service you received in Sunset's Tequila Bar, but am delighted to hear that you found our pool staff, and concierge, to be friendly and helpful!

It's great you had a chance to get off property to experience some of the local flavor, and to come back to a comfortable room and smiling faces. Hopefully that made things better for you.

We hope to welcome you back!

We frequently travel for business and sometimes try to fit in a little pleasure by staying at a resort. We decided to splurge and spend two nights at the Don on a recent trip. This hotel does not deserve it's ratings. Most of the staff at the Don CeSar needs hospitality training. I'm not sure I will ever stay in a Loews again.

We had an upgraded King room with a partial (tiny partial) gulf view overlooking the wedding courtyard. Upon check-in, I asked the front desk if the room was quiet. We had just driven for 9 hours and were looking for a nice relaxing evening. They assured me it was.

There were two or three weddings going on. We could feel the music and hear the guests. Including the wedding toasts. By 9pm, a few of them were drunk outside and cussing up a storm below our window. The kids from the sweet sixteen party were riding the elevators and rolling down the halls. I asked the front desk for another room, the offered the last two rooms, but both were near events going on. They didn't seem to concerned. The said the noise would stop at 10:30, it went on past 11pm.

They should've only booked wedding guests on our floor. They should've warned us when we booked or offered us a discounted rate. This seems to be a hotel that caters to events, not frequent travelers like me.

We spoke to the front desk manager in the morning. After waiting nearly 20 minutes. She seemed bothered to hear our complaints. She offered us two entrees then $50. She just seemed to want us to go away. A better response would've been an apology and a future free night stay to try them again. By the way, we did not receive the $50 credit on our bill.

And after the BIG things, there were the little things.

- only one robe in a room for two
- no do not disturb sign in our room
- we were given a late check-out to attend a meeting, only to have hotel staff in our room at 11:45am sharp to clean it out

On a positive note, activities are included in the resort fee. Including beach yoga! Which was wonderful. And the history of the hotel is very interesting.

Just know what you are getting into if you go here. It's nice looking hotel and the location on the beach is special. But they don't have the level of service you would expect. Especially not for the price at nearly $400 a night. I used to book hotel and conference space for conferences and meetings. I would never consider using this property or maybe even Loews after this experience. I wouldn't want my attendees or employees treated how we were. The hotel is overpriced for what it delivers. And don't expect the management at the Don to give a Darn.

I am so sorry to read that you found your visit with us so deeply disappointing. I am very concerned about the experiences you encountered and we are looking into everything you addressed and will get to the root of the issue.

Please know that while you may not have "felt it" management at Loews Don Cesar does "give a darn" about every single experience our guests have, before, during and after their stay. I apologize that you left our "Pink Palace" with such negative memories, but do hope that you will return sometime in the future.

Just stayed at the Don for 2 nights. We had a corner room on the 7th floor with views of the canals and beach. I would recommend the higher floors. This is a historic hotel with great charm. The pool area is very nice and the pool staff goes out of their way the not only take drink and food orders but sets up your chairs with towels. The gym and yoga room provide a good workout area and is well maintained. The bellman greet you at the door and are very friendly. We arrived early at 11am and Cheryl at the front desk said she would notify the housekeeping staff to jump on our room since we had arrived early. We decided to eat at Ted Peters Smokehouse in the mean time and Cheryl called as we sat down saying the room was already done. Upon our return Cheryl checked us in quickly. Christina at the concierge service was great with dining choices to were the locals go for dining. Not the high priced tourist traps. All her recommendations turned out fantastic. The beach area is increadible with white sugar sand and clean. We can highly recommend the resort. It is great for a quick weekend, vacation or a speacial event.

Room Tip: Ask for higher floor
