“A great drive-by find--don't even have to leave the premises”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2009

Stayed last several days of Feb. 2009 in this clean, roomy standard room with side view of picturesque ocean--beautiful viewing day or night. 2 closets in room--one large open closet with long shelf in dressing room and one next to sink, microwave, and small fridge. We had a small table to eat, read, or do paperwork at; ample drawers for clothing; and good tv. On our floor near our elevator was a wicker chair & table and a closet nearby housing a coin-operated washer & dryer.

Huge, clean, heated pool with an abundance of clean lounge chairs. The outdoor tiki bar provides tables, drinks, snacks, and light meals. Late afternoon and into the evening is outdoor music, singing, and even karaoke. In front, there's a lovely beach to walk in either direction.

The well-maintained public areas inside and outside (parking lot included) are well lit at night. The lobby has several secluded areas with sofas and love seats to enjoy conversation or reading day or night. Two blocks down the street at a motel are computers to "rent"--public use allowed and most affordable. Restaurants nearby and a shopping center across the street (even grocery store) if you choose to venture off the beautiful, relaxing, fun Dolphin Beach Resort in St. Petersburg, FL. Dennis & Carol

I've gone to the Dolphin a few times every year for the past 3 years. Cons are starting to outweight the pros.

GOOD: Great pool, beach bar is convenient and fun with good food. Kareoke Fri - Sun. Location - right across the street from supermarket and stores. Oceanfront rooms - walk right out on to the beach

CONS: Service of staff is very inconsistent (George - keep up the good work. Coleen - crack a smile once in a while). Rooms are just too beat at this point. Small holes in the walls, badly stained furniture and carpet, very loud air/heater, if you are over 5'5", the shower spray will hit you in the stomach. This trip only, big ugly bug crawling up wall in the morning.

For $20-30 more per night, you can now find a much better room on the strip

Our family stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during our may holiday. And we were not pleased. The staff of the hotel is not very friendly. The complete hotel is really worn out and dirty. The elevator and airco make tremendous noises as if it is their last day. Looking for a nice place to stay in Petersburg? Don't stay here!

St.Petes beach was a long term place for our families. It was gotten so much more commercialized :(

We used to stay at The Alden but was looking for a more affordable vacation this year.
In 07 we stayed here. It was ok the rooms were clean. No frills. Our view was the parking lot lol for a standard room. But we were mainly on the beach or at the pool anyhow.

When we looked it up to book here again this year it was way over priced!!!!

How in 2 years do you go from 90 with taxes fees to 169 plus taxes and fees Ridiculous.

I read all the reviews and thought that it couldn't be that bad. On arrival, check in was quick and painless. Our room (deluxe) #122 was gulffront and on the first floor. The room was stuffy and had a stale damp smell which is sometimes common with beach hotels, especially when people bring in their wet beach clothing. The a/c unit was VERY loud when it turned on and did not adequately cool the room. We constantly turn the temp down into the 60's. Even after all of this the room didn't stay cool. During the night when the a/c woke me up, I saw a huge roach running on the adjacent bed. The best thing about the hotel is the location. The room was right on the beach, with direct patio access. The pool bar is also right on the beach, maybe you can grab a beer with you roach roomate!! The price was around $250 after taxes...not worth the price at all.

The hotel was better than we expected after reading some of the horrible reviews. The pool area was fabulous. We asked to view our room before checking in and we were very happy, except we didnt have a balcony as we requested, the room was very large. The 3rd day they moved us to a room with a balcony (pool/ocean view) the room was smaller than the one without a balcony but we loved sitting out admiring the pool and ocean. The pool was heated and a little to warm for our liking since it was 80 degrees outside. The landscaping around the pool is beautiful. We were welcomed by a white crane who hung around the pool area the whole time. Places to eat: Crabby Bill's and Sloppy Pelican-- split your dinner because the helpings are large. Publix, Dollar General and Walgreens were right across the street. The pool bar was very expensive and we wish they had music during the day. The entertainment didnt start until 4pm, it would have been nice if they started earlier. Disappointments: the staff needs to be more knowledgeable about the area, they couldnt give us any suggestions were to eat or entertainment. The bathroom was very small and didnt have a vent so after taking a shower you were roasting. Overall, we were pleased.

I am a tour operator that brought a group into the Dolphin Beach resort for a 7 day stay. We found the staff very friendly and accomodating. The property is old but has been well maintained and has added new carpet within the last year. Their crew was in the courtyard every morning cleaning the pool and working on the landscaping. The location couldn't have been better with a pharmacy and grocery store across the street and more than a handful of restaurants within walking distance, not to mention the trolley that picks up right in front of the resort. I was dissapointed reading some of the reviews, but have learned when people have a nice experience you don't hear about it. It's when they have a bad experience that people are most vocal. Our group had a great time and will return next year for a longer stay.
