“Great place for family on a budget!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

In my usual quest for hotels/ resorts that are affordable AND offer lots of space for large families I was SO HAPPY to find this place. We were staying in St. Pete Beach for one night & I needed to find a clean, comfortable, roomy hotel right on the beach and this fit perfectly. I spent hours online trying to find the right place & through the help of TripAdvisor and a couple of other sites I narrowed it down to the Alden Beach Resort.
When we arrived the front desk staff was very friendly. Our room was ready early which was a nice surprise. When we got into the room we were amazed at the size. When we first walked in there was the bedroom area with 2 queen beds. There was a door so you could close off the bedroom area. Then the bathroom & closet area. THEN you walk into a nice sized living area with pullout couch, kitchenette, dinette table & balcony (ours overlooked pool). This was plenty of space for our family plus it gave us room to eat dinner we bought from Publix right down the street.
When we went down to the beach we passed 2 pools. They were ok, not fancy resort pools at all but they were fine. We passed a shuffleboard court, basketball court & tennis court. Right by the beach there's a tiki bar and cornhole game is set up.
The beach was nice. Very close to this resort were watersport rentals & a huge kids play area-- water trampoline, etc. We could see it all perfectly from our spot on the beach. I was so glad we stayed right on the beach.
The only thing I didn't like too much (& I know for next time) is we were staying in the first building--it was closest to the street. The buildings start there & the rest go closer to the Gulf. We heard all the street noises at night & the band playing at the bar across the street. It made it a little hard to go to sleep. But once I went to sleep I was fine-- the beds were comfy. I would definitely ask for a building further away from the street and closer to the beach next time.
Also, we are from Palm Beach County and most of our hotels and resorts are so perfect and clean that we get used to that. I grew up in Central Florida and went to Clearwater Beach every weekend so I know that a lot of those hotels & motels are older and don't seem as squeaky clean. Alden was just that-- clean but not polished. It was still a great experience and we would definitely go back! Next time we'll stay longer than one night!

Booked this hotel online. Pictures looked okay but thought we would try it anyways. We told ourselves we wouldn't be spending that much time in the room anyways. We stayed one night of the eight we booked and found another place to stay. The room smelt musty, smokey, and old. The door wouldn't close very easily, all the furniture was stained, and it needed a lot of updating. The service was great considering the room. We paid for our one night and were refunded the rest. The front desk also gave us a air fresher thing to help with the smell. But still would never go back.

I am sorry that your suite had a smokey odor issue and I'm also sorry that you didn't give us a chance to move you to another suite type..some guests break the "no smoking in the suites rule" and we go to great lengths to "refresh " after they depart...

Sorry for you unpleasant experience,

We just came back from a 3 night stay at the Alden Beach Resort. We had a great time. We stayed in a King poolside suite. The room was clean and very comfortable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. This resort offers safe covered parking, and is within walking distance of restaurants, and stores. We will definitely come back to this resort in the near future.

This is where you go to relax! Clean rooms, great staff and a beach to walk along for miles.
Super Restaurants, some within walking distance and a choice of supermarkets. I want to bring your housekeeping staff home with me.
We will be back again next summer if not sooner. My husband and I have come here for 28 years and vacation other places but always come back at least once each year, for some time in the sun.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view. Larger pool side rooms are a perfect size for families with chil...

Wow! Thanks for the great review...

Did everyone know that there are over 75 restaurants on St. Pete Beach? You could stay at Alden Suites for 2.5 months and never have to go to the same restaurant twice!

Thanks again for taking the time to compose a great review,

We stayed at the Alden in April and found it to be a pleasant place to stay. Although it is an older style of hotel, it really had everything in it we were looking for in order to have a comfortable stay. It was also a good price compared to the other hotels on this strip.
The rooms were again furnished with older style furniture, bed spreads could use an update, however the rooms were very clean, and cleaned well every day of our stay there. The room was also very large, two double beds with a TV in the bedroom, large bathroom area with vanity on the outside of the bathroom, which I liked, a huge double mirrored closet, and then a large living room/dining room area with another TV that led to the balcony. I like the layout very much. The employees were very friendly and helpful. We had a pool view room, but I could see that a gulf view room would have had an amazing view. Pools were nice and clean, and loved the beach it was amazing! Long, sandy and shallow for the kids to play in. Also loved the second floor patio with hottub and bbqs. Made our supper there, it was great!
Overall, we had a great time. The hotel was great for the price we paid. You have to take that into consideration. Some people can always find things to complain about, but it's your perspective going into a trip that can make it or break it!

Room Tip: Ocean view would be amazing, but pool view is good and much cheaper.

Thanks so much for the nice review. The poolside suites will be renovated this fall, to include new carpeting, new living room furniture, and two new thin screen TV's (37 inches in the living room and 32 inches in the bedroom).

Thanks again,

We flew in during the tail end of the tropical storm, having never stayed on the Gulf Coast before and expecting placid blue water. The hotel beach was flooded and the surf was unbelievable - we (dangerously, probably) had a ball for hours bodysurfing in the stormy water. The property itself was perfect for my two teenage sons, husband and I. Our rooms were adequate size, the full kitchenette and bathroom were not huge but large enough not to feel cramped, and the daily housekeeping service was reliable and kept-us well stocked with plenty of towels and amenities. I must mention the staff - they were friendly and helpful, and amused us with their suggestions and personality. The pools were nice, bar was small but friendly with a nice bartenders, and the patio with grills was a great place to hang out. I would definitely go back. Although not luxe, it was a really wonderful value.

Room Tip: Go for the "deluxe Gulf-front" rooms, If you like a bigger balcony, specify it. Some of...

Booked a trip chose Alden from a pick and it started as a nightmare. Arrived at midnight and unpacked then water gushed from hotel ceiling, moved us to a room with a room air condition unit which was molded and the room stunk and it wasn't a pool side room which is what we paid for then moved us to another room since the mold was so bad and opened door and cockroach was staring at me from the counter, so we said enough is enough just give us our money back since the manager home in bed wanted to "take care of things tomorrow" which by the way this was happening at 1 am finally the manager came to the hotel to "take care of things" took us to the next building over from our original destination and it was beautiful clean up to date and had a beach front view. The manager did help but we still went to bed at 4 am and slept until 11 am the next day bc of the mental exhaustion. I won't stay here unless I take the "beach front view building" oh yeah...elevator went out of service today!

Room Tip: Choose the beach front building if a good $$ deal otherwise choose another resort
