“Key West atmosphere blue colar get away”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2010

First impressions, we arrived late on a Friday afternoon, and the party was on. That would have been OK if I was single with buddies living on the edge. "The Key West atmosphere." It didn't seem to be the kind of place for family and young kids. Locals visit the bar and wonder around the hotel, walking by your room, at night. You may see the Police removing a guest or 3. Holidays and weekends are probably the biggest party times. Eventually, I realized the staff was very good at running the partiers; not the other way around.
Once I understood how it worked, I was OK. Guest and staff were genuine people. Not a place for the uppity. An afternoon with the kids in the unique pool is as good as it gets. Palm trees, thick green grass, flowers, and and coconuts control the atmosphere. Add some music from the afternoon band and you feel laid back..
The rooms are dated, with small bathrooms, etc..., but they are very clean and maintained. With the A/C running all night and the door shut none of the party sounds are heard. We slept like babies. The kitchenette had a dorm room fridge and was dark.
The food is OK. The cooks did what they could with poor quality food. The BBQ in the hotel next door was good.
It is a cool place at a nice price. If you're planning to spend alot of time in a ritzy room looking at the Gulf, this is not the place. If you're planning on relaxing on the beach, pool, and bar, this is the heart of St. Pete Beach.
Eventually places like this get replaced by humongous high rises.

We just got back from our stay at the Beachcomber. The hotel was a little older than what I expected, but the rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. Our room had a full kitchen and had most of what we needed. The Publix was right down the street so stocking the kitchen was not a problem.
The pool, beach bar, and live entertainment made for the whole "tropical experience." Unfortunately, our room was right next to the pool and a direct path for the partiers as they closed down the bar at night. Lots of rowdy folks at night making tons of noise outside our room. Our neighbors were especially rowdy, but the management jumped to the task of rectifying the situation. We didn't hear a peep out of them the rest of the trip. We were offered the option of moving to a quieter area of the hotel, but we opted to stay and stick it out. We should have moved because I never did get a good nights sleep. I would recommend to anyone staying at the Beachcomber to decide what area of the hotel would be best for their kids. Hearing the F bomb repeatedly during the late hours was not a family friendly situation. The area closer to the front office would be best. During the daytime hours though, near the pool and beach bar are great.
Don't go here for the kids game room or fitness center. The game room had about 5 video games from the 1980's in a room the size of a large closet. The fitness room had three pieces of equipment and that was it.
Housekeeping did a good job, but they must be understaffed. Our rooms were not attended to until the afternoon hours on most days. Somewhat disappointing after being out and coming home to a still-messy room. Being spring break week, they may have been busier than usual.
All in all, we had a pretty great time.

I had the unfortunate circumstance to end up in St.Pete Beach during the cold snap Jan. 8-15, but my surroundings could not have been more pleasant at the Beachcomber. Friendly, competent and helpful staff from reception to maintenance to food/drink, right on the beach, close to everything. This hotel's star rating is defintely under-rated. Would recommend to anyone in the mid-range accommodations.

Pros
- Great location

On the beach, courtyard rooms, two pools, private. Clean simple rooms. Staff was great. Beach Bar plays music from 1pm to 1am. Great bands, variety of music. Perfect place to relax unwind in a low key "key west" type atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!

At 9:00 p.m., on day 1 of our Spring Breatk trip, our group of 10 was threatened
with eviction because of a noise complaint.

Thanks to Travelocity we've changed hotels and are finally feeling welcome
and relaxed in FLA.

If you're with teenagers, avoid the Beachcomber at all costs !!
