“The Best Deal on the Beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2009

Although the accommodation is modest by modern standards the resort is very well maintained and housekeeping is above average. The staff are friendly and can't do enough for us.

The location is excellent with direct access to the Beach and local shopping. For sports fans Players Lounge broadcasts all football, hockey and basketball events. Jimmy B's is the best "beach bar" in the area featuring local bands during the afternoons and evenings.

The resort has two pools and a video acarde for the kids. You will be pleasantly surprised!

This little hotel is one of St. Pete Beach's best kept secrets...The Beachcomber sits right on the Gulf of Mexico and has lots of amenities to boot. It is well priced, with clean, comfortable rooms. My wife and I live in St. Petersburg but we enjoy an occasional getaway down to the Beachcomber. Jimmy B's Bar & Grill is part of the hotel complex and sits right on the beach. Alot of the Tampa area local musicians pass through, playing gigs at Jimmy B's. It's a great place to hear some rock n roll and sip cocktails right on the ocean. The best part is you don't have to risk driving home afterwards, you can stay in a cozy room just a few yards from the bar. There is also a sports bar in the front of the hotel that is geared more to the sports enthusiast, with big screen tv's and a video game room for the kids. Don't expect 4 star dining, the food is average at best but still tasty enough to wash down with a few cold beers. There are 2 heated pools to relax in year round, along with a modern fitness center that is included in your room rate.
One minor drawback is that there is no breakfast of any sort, continental or otherwise, but there is free coffee daily in the lobby, along with some cozy couches to lounge on while you sip and read the paper. A McDonald's and a 7-11 is within walking distance if you wanted to grab something quick to eat (sodas, snacks, etc) and there are great restaurants all along Gulf Blvd for your dining pleasure. Everyone I have encountered on the staff is extremely helpful and friendly (particularly Debbie) and will go out of their way to make sure your stay is both pleasureable and hassle-free. I recommend this hotel to anyone that is looking for an economical, yet clean & comfortable place to stay. The old adage "You get what you pay for" holds true here, but you get so much more at the Beachcomber...

We just got home a few days ago from a 6 night stay at the Beachcomber Resort.....While it was 95% positive ,or probably higher, there were a couple of things I'll mention first to get them off my chest.....

Had to pay a fee of $2 per day (plus tax) for the room safe,at other nearby hotels (I checked),it was included......Then,had to pay a one time charge of $5 for the computer while others off the street came in and were given the code for free......I believe this also could be included for free, as it is in other nearby beach hotels......

And,my last beef was the fact that I was sometimes paying $85 a night (the night changes from night to night),and someone would come in off the street (while I'm in lobby) and be offered the Managers special of $65 a night or,if too high, then down to $59 a night..........And,my reward for booking early, pay the big price. That was somewhat hard to swallow.......Gulp!

Enough complaining, everything else is on the plus side, and the plus side really far outweighs the negative.....

The staff at this hotel is A-One..........People like Candace and Ben at the front desk, and Vernia the maid go above and beyond the call of duty...........Never met a staff member here we didn't like, a rarity in the hotel business these days......They are certainly going all out for business, and for staff friendliness,I rate them A+++.........

The Beach Bar,Jimmy B's,is a great place to meet and hang out. They have good bands every afternoon and evening. In afternoon, they play outdoors and in the evening, inside the beach bar.....We enjoyed a couple of meals there and service was prompt and courteous.Great chicken wings and onion rings, and the White Russians are pretty tasty too!

Our room was fine and a had a kitchenette..........We could have used some real coffee mugs rather than the little ones we had,but overall,it was a good kitchenette with a sturdy table and 4 good chairs......The fridge was cold and the microwave hot,so can't complain here..... Our maid kept us supplied with lots of toilet paper and fresh towels daily, and was very accomodating in any requests we made......All staff said hello whenever they passed by...........The 2 double beds were very comfy and the Air conditioning never failed to cool us off.More water pressure in the shower might have been welcome, but it always worked and always felt clean afterward.........

Some people in other reviews complain about noise from beach bar but from our room, located near the fountain,we heard very little, this is a great location. We chose the ground floor and found it most convenient........

The weather was perfect for our trip and time spent at the beach was wonderful.I don't like the idea of paying for a beach chair..........but apparently that's the way it is there,so I did my beach walk, then back to the 2 pools at the resort, where seating was free. Enjoyed swimming in the large pool, and lots of comfy chairs all around.....The day I pay for a beach chair is a long way off.......!!

Overall, most of the aspects of our stay at the Beachcomber Resort were very positive and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone ..........Although we might consider another hotel in St. Pete next time, we would also consider the Beachcomber again. We did get a Platinum card so will save $ on drinks/food next time, and we've also applied for a card that gives a discount on rooms.........Hope they match the Managers special that they're offering this time of year.....It's prices like those that would bring me back quickly to the Beachcomber..........

Thanks to all for a great time!

Just returned to the UK after a couple of weeks in Florida, stayed at the Beachcomber, (again), just love this place, whenever we get there, we are happy. Must have sayed here more than a dozen times now, nothing better than sitting at Jimmy B's beach bar, listening to the live music, and watching the sun-set. Get up in the morning, stroll along the beach, and watch the Dolphins/pelecans, just superb. Be back next year too!"

This hotel has it all for the price. It's not the Ritz but I am picky about cleanliness, service, location & amenities for a good price. The entire staff was more than accomodating, two nice pools, the Tiki Bar was such fun, and the ajoining bar featured live music 7 nights a week, and during the day the Tiki bar offered afternoon entertainment. Also a sports bar on the property, food service at all 3 locations (burgers, etc) The beach was "right there" and beautiful. Yes you do pay to rent cabana style beach loungers, beach sports, etc. Located near lots of good restaurants, grocery stores, (Publix a few blocks away, 7-11 across the street) you can walk a short distance & get a lot without paying for a cab. Frig. & coffee maker in each room, & some rooms offer a kitchen area as well. This was our second stay & so happy we went back. I lived in the area in the 80's & for the price, this can't be beat. And we will go again! Lexington, Ky.

This was our first trip, and we are already talking about going back. This place is awesome. We loved the Player's Lounge, the staff was extremely nice and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Try the huge hamburger in the Player's Bar, biggest, best, burger I've ever had. The beach is beautiful and the water was warm even in Oct/Nov. I would highly recommend the Hotel

Very nice clean room with excellent A/C. Large walkin closet let you store the suitcases, beach chairs etc. outside of the living area. Larger hotel refridgerator was very cold and had plenty of room for several 12 packs of pop and a gallon of milk. Beach area was beautiful and less crowded than most. Umbrellas and cabanas were available for a charge The beach bar had good entertainment in the evening. Another plus was the 7/11 directly across the street.
