“Not so sure about the 'oldworld charm'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

We stayed here for a few days in to get some sea and sun. I booked online after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. I wasn't quite sure what "old-world charm" and "straight out of a movie set"would be, turned out it just meant old. The kind of old where fifties colors are everywhere, doors don't quite close properly, locking windows needs a strong arm and bathtubs are old and stained.
The property is located right on very busy Gulf Boulevard on one side and on the other side is the beach-which is beautiful white sand.
Our first night there, I heard five shots being fired. Though I don't think they were on the hotel property, it was unsettling. And the second night, I was woken up at 3:30 by male footsteps running past our back window and then walking past our front. Needless to say, I didn't sleep again that night. I was somewhat nervous because there is no nighttime security and the place is pretty open to the street and the beach.
But the pros, the beach is very nice along Gulf Boulevard, the atmosphere is very low key, family oriented. Two pools and a shuffle board provide some entertainment and there are lots of seating areas. The pool areas were clean and attractive.

Our bed was very comfortable, towels changed daily. When we were there, it was only about thirty percent occupied so access to the pool was easy. There is a bakery across the road and a little plaza within walking distance, though getting to restaurants generally required a car ride.
We enjoyed our stay because the beach is so nice, but I don't think I would stay at this particular hotel again. We noticed several other hotels that were on the same beach and would look into staying at one of those if we came back to St. Pete's Beach again.

Room Tip: There are three 'courtyards' at this hotel. Probably the best rooms are somewhere in the mid...

Spent the latter half of my vacation at the Bon Aire on the recommendation of a friend.....loved it! This is a family-owned motel with all the warmth and charm of old-world Florida.....retro! The staff are incredibly friendly and fun, the rooms are charmingly homey and spotlessly clean. There are 2 lovely heated pools and the gorgeous beach at your doorstep, with sunsets that take your breath away. This will definitely be an annual vacation spot for this sun-starved Canuck.

Picked the Bon Aire as half of our party had stayed here 20 odd years earlier and after reading the many reviews on Trip Advisor. It really is a picture perfect, old style motel, right on the beach and straight out of a 50's or 60's movie set. Reception right out front and the rooms flanking either side of the central car parking area with the pool to the rear and the Tiki Bar, beach and the ocean beyond. The location is stunning, St Pete Beach really is incredible and although it blew a gale for the two days that we stayed there we still enjoyed strolling along the beach, even though we couldn't lay on it. Pool area is quite small but about average for the size of the property. The rooms that we had ( two adults in one and two adults and one teen in the other ) were clean and tidy but did seem old fashioned and in need of refurbishment. Having said that it did rather add to the charm of of the Bon Aire but it may not suit everybodys taste if they are used to staying in a more contemporary accomodation. A great stay in a beautiful part of the world.

It's not a chain motel/resort, It's family owned. Very clean, fresh and updated rooms, friendliest staff I've come across in along time.Right on the beach,it's a short walk to the waters edge, and great seating for some Outstanding sunsets..There's a Tiki Bar beachside ,ice cold beer, great mixed drinks and sandwiches.Walking distance to some great local eateries..Usually stay bay-side ,in order to bring boat, will be leaving the boat home some and come here now.

Room Tip: Look at the room descriptions and map provided,on their site, this is an older facility, but you won...

Perfect hotel right on the beach! Great tiki bar that serves a very nice variety of food items, all good! Publix nearby, great Italian bakery across the street and Italian restaurant. Easy and relaxing!

We go to the Bon Aire every year. This year we brought 16 friends with us and they all loved it. This hotel is not a big chain hotel, it is family run. It is right on the beach and has a tiki bar on premises with good food and drinks! You really cannot find a better hotel on the beach for the price. We love the staff, especially Theresa, Jackie, Richard, Jenna, Leslie, and of course, Hot Alex.

We enjoy the Bon Aire year after year. The staff is great and we feel like family. The view of the beach is the best, and dont forget to try a burger at Sand Bar Bill's.
