We stayed here for a few days in to get some sea and sun. I booked online after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. I wasn't quite sure what "old-world charm" and "straight out of a movie set"would be, turned out it just meant old. The kind of old where fifties colors are everywhere, doors don't quite close properly, locking windows needs a strong arm and bathtubs are old and stained.
The property is located right on very busy Gulf Boulevard on one side and on the other side is the beach-which is beautiful white sand.
Our first night there, I heard five shots being fired. Though I don't think they were on the hotel property, it was unsettling. And the second night, I was woken up at 3:30 by male footsteps running past our back window and then walking past our front. Needless to say, I didn't sleep again that night. I was somewhat nervous because there is no nighttime security and the place is pretty open to the street and the beach.
But the pros, the beach is very nice along Gulf Boulevard, the atmosphere is very low key, family oriented. Two pools and a shuffle board provide some entertainment and there are lots of seating areas. The pool areas were clean and attractive.
Our bed was very comfortable, towels changed daily. When we were there, it was only about thirty percent occupied so access to the pool was easy. There is a bakery across the road and a little plaza within walking distance, though getting to restaurants generally required a car ride.
We enjoyed our stay because the beach is so nice, but I don't think I would stay at this particular hotel again. We noticed several other hotels that were on the same beach and would look into staying at one of those if we came back to St. Pete's Beach again.
