Myself and my family have been coming to The Long key Beach Resort for over 10 years now, stayed 6 times and each time is just as wonderful as the last.
On arrival you may see the rooms as dated and in need of an upgrade as in most cases the crockery and cutlery sets do not match or are not fully complete, you may find you are missing some cooking pans or a kettle or something and you may feel the decor is dated and in need of a new lick of paint, but give it a day and you will forget about the less than perfect decor/interior of the rooms, as the location is to die for, directly on the beach with nothing hindering your perfect view.
Once you have spent a day outside round the perfect heated pool with it's mini waterfall, with plenty of sunbeds or down at the sugary white sandy beach (which incidentally is a only steps away from your room or the pool), you will not even think about your room - you relax and your holiday/vacation begins.
Roman, Lottie and their team - who incidentally have been the same for all the years we have been coming, cannot do enough for you, no request is too much trouble and if they do not have what you are asking for no doubt they will find it or buy it.
The beds are so comfortable, the rooms are very clean, the showers are strong and hot - what more do you need from a room?
The motel provides 2 x large BBQ grills, which are frequently used by most of the guests, newbies and regulars alike and cleaned daily by Roman himself, there is shuffle-board to keep the kids and adults alike entertained, laundry room, free Wifi and free access to a PC and printer in the office area, plus complimentary coffee in this area - the whole atmosphere is friendly and relaxed with a mixture of regulars from America, regulars like us from the UK and new people from all over.
We have stayed in several of the rooms over the years that we have been coming and this year we stayed in room 201, a Gulf View one Bedroom with sofa bed in the living area. Great views from our private balcony/deck out front with your own private sunbeds, table and chairs for eating out there - which is wonderful. Room 201 is one of three rooms facing the Gulf but up a small flight of stairs, all of the other rooms are ground floor situated around a beautiful garden courtyard - again very well maintained by Roman.
The king size bed is very comfortable, plenty of storage space and walk in wardrobe, flat screen TV in bedroom, old style TV in living area. On entry you walk into the main living area which is a living, dining, kitchen area - with a large sofa bed and two armchairs and three coffee tables, the dining area has a small dining table and three chairs and there is a fully equipped kitchen with full cooker/oven, microwave, family size refridgerator/freezer, coffee machine and the usual pots, pans, crockery and utensils (although as mentioned before you may be missing some, but just ask and they will find for you). From the living area there is a small shower room, with sink, WC and a nice size shower with a good shelf or if you will a small seat, for putting all your shower toiletries on. Good powerful hot shower. Clean towels/flannels/wash cloths are provided daily (apart from Sunday, as cleaners day off, but you can exchange at reception for clean ones). Bedding is changed regularly and cleaner comes daily apart from Sunday.
St. Pete's Beach is a beautiful location with lots of sea life and wild life from Dolphins, Baby Sea Turtles, Manta Rays and even a small shark this time around to the herons and egrets who visit you for food.
There are plenty of lovely restaurants around the beach and also inland in St Petersburg itself and several Tiki or beach bars one within steps from the motel.
We would thoroughly recommend this motel, great value for money and very popular so book early (we booked for next year on our departure to be sure of our favourite gulf front room), which speaks for itself as regulars continually book - you will not be disappointed and I guarantee once you have been here once, you will return.
