“Best of both sides”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

With my family (we're from The Netherlands) we have been in Baypalms many times. It's a very nice place to fish. When you cross the street you enter the lovely , quiet beach. That's why we love it : my son goes fishing on one side and my wife is sunbathing on the beach just by crossing the street. In the evening we often go to the Rays ballgame, which is a 10 minutes drive only. We always book the de luxe eff. room, which we like because it leaves lots of space.
On top of that it's very clean. Last time we were there in August '13 two manitees came to us.
We could caress them and they stayed with us for more than half an hour and returned the next day again.
We also liked the socializing 4-5 free beers and wines. Nice to talk to all the very open minded people from the States and Canada. We'lll be back!!!!!

Room Tip: We love the Baypalms de luxe eff. If you want direct access to the beach, book the Plaza side.

Green Features: They have a environmental program, clearly listed in the bathroom.

We stayed at the Bay Palms because we got a really good deal on a discount travel site. The resort is one of a 3 hotel cluster. You check in at the “main” hotel across the street, and have access to amenities at all three facilities. We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the first floor. We were just outside the ice machine and steps away from the waterfront, though there was no view at all to speak of from our room.

The units have obviously been recently renovated and were very clean and well appointed. We entered into the bedroom, which had more than adequate storage and a comfortable bed. Warning: the bedroom furniture has “feet” that extend beyond the furniture corners. I can’t tell you how many times we tripped over them, despite trying to remember to walk in the middle of the floor. Staff told us they are planning to replace this furniture – for their sake I hope it’s before someone seriously injures themselves.

The bathroom was very small and narrow with a tiny integrated corian sink but a decent-sized shower. Very limited storage/counter area. The combined living/kitchenette was small but adequate. Very little counter space in the kitchen, but a full size refrigerator, 2-burner cooktop and small microwave were fine for our needs. The room opened out to a small porch facing the front of the hotel, just a car length away from the street. I’m glad the bedroom was not located here, as the traffic noise was quite noticeable. The walls of the hotel are not very well insulated, as we could also hear neighbors partying out in the common areas until very late at night.

Public areas of the complex are lovely and well maintained. We had coffee out by the water in the morning and it was very relaxing. They have several boat docks for guests and we saw a couple sail in and out. There is also a small enclosed “pet park” as they are a pet-friendly hotel. It was really cute, although not a blade of grass in site.

At the Bay Palms, you have to cross the street to get to the beach. We chose to drive the block to the “main” hotel, (not as far to carry our umbrella and other beach gear) so it wasn’t much of an inconvenience. They also offer a free beer/wine “happy hour” daily which was a lot of fun. We also enjoyed watching the beautiful Gulf sunsets from the new oh-so-comfortable and colorful lounge chairs on the beach.

Overall, we had a wonderful, relaxing vacation at the Bay Palms. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the facility is very clean and well-maintained, and you can’t beat the powdery white sand and gentle waves of the Gulf.

We love staying at the Bay Palms, and have been here many times. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff is wonderful.
Pros:
Really nice small, boutique properties (Bay Palms, Plaza Beach, & Bayview Plaza)
Large rooms in a great location
Easy parking (not like some of the larger resorts nearby where it is a pain to park & also a bit of a distance from your room)
Pets are allowed
Wonderful management & housekeeping staff
"Green" property

Cons:
Only one: the pet fees
$25.00 per night per pet, in addition to a $50.00 per-pet cash deposit (the cash deposit is refunded at the end of the stay if there is no evidence of pet damage)

We have 2 pets that travel with us frequently. They have stayed with us at many places throughout Florida, and their stay has never resulted in any damages to any property. Having to pay an additional $50.00 per night at the Bay Palms just seems steep to me.
Please keep in mind that I am not aware of any reason for this additional fee (such as special cleaning, etc.), so it would be helpful to understand what, if anything, warrants a daily, per-pet charge.

I hope that management would consider a change to this policy for known guests as follows:
Keep a record of guests with pets that have stayed in the past with no evidence of pet damage, and adjust the fees for those guests (for example, consider a cleaning fee at the end of the visit instead of a daily per pet fee, or provide some other type of discount for those guests with a history of no pet damage).

This will not prevent us from staying at the Bay Palms, but it keeps us from staying longer since it just becomes too expensive.

Green Features: The Bay Palms does an excellent job of being environmentally-friendly!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for your most recent stay at the Bay Palms Waterfront Resort - Hotel and Marina. We are thankful to have you as a guest who has stayed with us at least ten times over the years. We do require the daily pet fee because there is extra cleaning involved with pet-friendly rooms. After a guest with a pet checks out, the entire room is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected so that the room is spotless for the next guest. Most pets leave hair and scents behind and our policy is in place to ensure the comfort of all guests. However, I do like your suggestion of just a cleaning fee for our frequent guest as yourself, as opposed to a daily fee. I will bring that up at our next meeting and see what we can do. When you book your next stay please give our office a call and we will offer you the best available rate as a repeat guest.

We have just left from our first time visit at Bay Palms Waterfront Resort. We stayed for two nights on Aug. 26 and 27. We were so impressed with the rooms character and the place was spotless, they thought of all the little things to make your stay even more enjoyable. Loved the access of using the beachfront property amenities, we use to stay at the larger resorts, but no more, we have found our new paradise on St Pete. The staff was outstanding and you cannot beat the price right on the gulf. The best kept secret on St. Pete!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: We loved the Bay Palms Waterfront because of the character of the rooms and the view of the bay/harb...

I would definitely stay again. The staff is wonderful, the rooms are clean and nicely equipped. Close to the beach and nice that it is next door to Walgreens. The office is a little walk but no problem. The decor is Florida kitschy but that made me love it all the more. Coin laundry available.

Green Features: Love that they do this. Good green policies. What more can I say to use up this 50 characters required?

My husband and I travel a lot for business. We also like to take our small dog with us. The Bay Palms is one of 3 motels next to each other on Gulf Blvd. The bungelow style rooms are decently well priced for the location and pet- friendly, however.....we had to take 2 cars to meet up, as he was working that weekend. They charged us a 25$ fee for a 2nd vehicle parking fee that we weren't aware of until after we booked the room. We had to park about 100 yards away, which was an issue of walking across the street with luggage, etc...
Also, they hold 50$ CASH only deposit for doggie damage deposit, so bring an extra 50$ in cash!!!!!!!! (They did give it back to me). We got to chose a doggie friendly chew toy when we arrived, which was fun.
The office is at the main hotel, so if you have an issue (key not working, etc.) be prepared to walk down the street.
All in all, though, I would stay there again. Clean, updated rooms, great location for watersports, bike riding to Pass A Grille or golfing at Isla Del Sol. Close to Ft. Desoto Doggie Park and Beach.
*Also they have a dog friendly enclosed area conveniently located in he intracoastal waterway by the rooms.

Keli,

Thank you for leaving a detailed review of your stay. I'm sorry there were a few glitches along the way. We do only offer one complimentary parking space per room. Parking anywhere on the beach is hard to come by and though space on property is limited, we have established off-site parking with an additional fee. Many area hotels don't even offer any alternatives, so we are happy to be able to offer additional parking to our guests. Though our office is located at our beachfront property, we are always able to send someone over to assist in the case of a key not working, needing extra towels or linens, and any other needs that may arise during your stay. We hope to see you again soon!

I have stayed here twice now and will every time I am in St. Pete. It is a VERY clean place with lots of amenities and a super friendly staff. The rooms have been remodeled and very nicely appointed. Conveniently located and a bargain. The main hotel is on the gulf but I prefer across the street on the inner coastal water. Nice pool, docks, grills, pic-nic tables and fishing. You will not regret your stay.
