I had friends and family visiting from the Midwest, and we decided to have dinner at Oyster Shuckers Restaurant on St Pete Beach. Since there were nine of us, I called that afternoon and made a reservation. I requested outdoor tables, and they said they would try to accommodate us. Since we are in our slow season, I didn’t expect this to be a problem.
When we got there, we were informed that we could not sit outside; there was no room, even though we were the only names on the reservation list. When we asked if we could wait, we were told “it would be a while”. After asking twice how long “a while” was, we were informed it would be at least an hour wait. We said that we did request this when we made the reservation.
This is when things got ugly on their part. The hostess got a bit flustered, an older woman (I guess the owner?) came over to us, and told us they would not serve us, to get out of her restaurant, and if we didn’t leave she would call the police!! I can assure you that at no time did we raise our voices or get aggressive with them, and I’m sure the 2 young children and their 80 year old grandfather who were with us would agree with that. So, we left, and decided to go across the street to Woody’s. There, we were met at the door by the owner, with two large men behind him. We were very rudely informed that we were not welcome there, they own all of the restaurants on the beach and we were not to come back!! As we gathered on the sidewalk to decide what to do next, they stood there and watched us, maybe they thought we were going to call in backups and storm his restaurant! We decided to go to Madfish Grill, but they did not have any tables. However, they did call their sister restaurant Snappers, where they reserved a table for us and we proceeded to have a lovely dinner, with excellent service in a very nice atmosphere.
