Visited St Pete Beach for first time in October 2006 after exhausting "the Disney thing" in previous years, and can't believe we didn't come before. Absolutely fabulous beaches and such a laid -back atmosphere and so quiet at this time of year - great!
We found dining mostly casual, but for evening dining found the Oyster Shucker perfect.
The decor was really nice - a Halloween theme when we visited - and the staff really friendly and helpful especially in explaining the excellent local variety of fish on offer.
We dined many times during our 2 week stay and were never disappointed having excellent meals every time - the grouper ( new to us Brits) was superb - and found the prices very reasonable, although we did have the advantage of a great exchange rate.
We were quite suprised with the negative reviews for this restaurant by other postings, just goes to show how subjective reviews can be.
One thing for certain, we will be back later this year!

We ate here over spring break. It is the cutest place and the menu looks appealing. My dinner of Triggerfish with blueberries was rather bland. My husband had fettuccine with shrimp and didn't like the sauce. My daughter thought it tasted like beer or wine. We had really high hopes for this place. I thought maybe we simply ordered the wrong things, but judging by other comments here that wasn't the case. I'd go back sometime and try something simple, like grilled grouper. Two my of kids had that and liked it. The house salad was good and very fresh.

Have just returned from a 2 week stay at The Sirata no complaints at all.

As far as eating out is concerned forget the rest Oyster Shucker, not far from The Sirata, is the best.

As the name suggests mainly seafood with a hint of meat. All very reasonably priced, pretty busy, but worth the wait.

“Very Disappointing”

We took a large group to The Oyster Shucker in mid-April. It was overpriced and the food was disappointing, to say the least. Two people in our party ordered shrimp cocktails and ended up sending them back because the shrimp had a bad taste -- I suspect that it was a long way from fresh. We ordered the grouper special for our meal and the grouper smelled and tasted very fishy, unlike any grouper that I have ever had. Again, I suspect that it was not fresh.

My recommendation is that you stay away from this restaurant. There are many other, better choices in St. Pete.
