“Jewel of St. Pete Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

I reserved two nights at the Grand Plaza on my way from Dallas to West Palm Beach through American Airlines AA points. Upon arriving, after a 12 hour drive, I was elated and surprised that I had found this unique jewel on the beach. Michelle upgraded me to an oceanfront room with a view up and down St. Pete beach with spectacular sunsets. I watched several gorgeous beach weddings and would recommend the Grand Plaza to anyone wanting a lovely sunrise or sunset beach wedding with all your friends and family. I had the most fabulous dinner (stuffed grouper) with the most beautiful salad, by Michelle, at Spinners Restaurant, while watching the most exquisite 360 degree sunset view of St. Pete. While at Bongos beach bar, I believe Billy Joel and wife, were in the audience of 10. I can say, without reservation, the Grand Plaza should be rated 5-stars, every staff person was the perfect reflection of this wonderful resort. I look forward to my next stay. BRAVO.

Room Tip: Ask for a room 3rd floor or above, where every room has a great view. Each room has a lovely patio.

Pool was good, There were plenty of lounge chairs to relax on,
Bongos was great ,They add tables and chairs there and you could eat and drink and watch the sunset ! It was awsome, I will be back ! ( have been for 15yrs )

My very first 'tripadvisor' review was about a stay in the Grand Plaza back in 2009 when my wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary. We enjoyed the experience so much we decided to return there for our 28th anniversary. We stayed for 9 nights between 3rd and 12th September 2012 and once again enjoyed the experience very much. The check in was friendly, quick and efficient. We were given a choice of floors for our room and replied 'the higher the better' so as to maximise the pleasure of the excellent views from this hotel. The room itself was excellent being large, clean, comfortable and with views of both the sea and the city. As before, all the staff that we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. I once needed a hacksaw to make alterations to a parasol that I had bought and the receptionist arranged for me to borrow one from the Engineering Dept which was very helpful. We once again dined in the revolving restaurant 'Spinners' located on top of the hotel. Both the food and the service were once again excellent. Our own preference is to dine early whilst it is still daylight and you get the most benefit of the excellent views afforded by the restaurants' location. Similarly we enjoyed eating in the hotels beach bar 'Bongo's' where we could also enjoy live music every night. There were at least two weddings held at the hotel whilst we there but we were not inconvenienced by either of them. The pool area is very well maintained and although fairly small was never crowded. The beach location is a big plus and it is fantasic to watch dolphins swimming and playing just a few yards from the shore. A great bonus is that there are no resort fees and there is ample free parking on site. We were very pleased to find that we enjoyed this stay at the hotel every bit as much as our first visit. I will certainly continue to recommend the Grand Plaza to friends and family whilst hoping to return there again myself someday.

Room Tip: If you have a choice ask for a high floor with views of both the sea and the city as we feel this gi...

Stayed for a weekend night. A little trouble on check-in but manager made it right. Totally to our satisfaction. Will stay there again without hesitation. All of the staff was pleasant and helpful. St. Pete beach is always clean. Water was a balmy 84 degees. Pool was actual colder than the Gulf of Mexico. Pool was clean an easily accesiable to bathrooms and the Bongo tike bar.

Just back from a 5 night stay & I would sum it up by saying, good bang for the buck. Would not call it a 5 star hotel, but not charging 5 star $. Bongos was great, but they had multiple weddings each day we were there so if you are trying to get to bed early, the band/crowd noise could be an issue. Rooms were nice, view along with beach was excellent. We had the breakfast buffet one morning then ate @ Bongos once & both were OK. Many restaurants within walking distance and if you have a car, there are endless possibilities within 30 minutes!

We would go again!

Room Tip: We upgraded to the oceanfront & was pleased but be aware, you are closer to Bongos which can be...

We chose to stay at this hotel for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary. It had mixed reviews, but the special rate was on the low-end of average and therefore, acceptable. The exteror of the hotel is time-worn but has a cool 1960s retro vibe. The interior is very nice; well-decorated and clean. There are only 2 elevators, and evidently no service elevator as the staff were using these elevators to deliver meals from the kitchen on the 1st floor to the restaurant at the top of the building. Even so, the waiting time wasn't bad. Our room was beautiful, spotlessly clean & had a very nice view of the gulf and the town (it was a "partial gulf-view" room). The bathroom is tiny, but clean. There was a hidden Murphy bed behind a couch that I expect would be difficult to maneuver if it were to be used, but it didn't affect us. now for the not-so-good: there were several weddings & receptions going on in & around the hotel, and the rooms aren't at all sound-proofed. The noise from the parties outside, 8 floors below (!), was unbearably loud late into the night. Additionally, folks were having multiple conversations in the hallway outside of our room, and slamming doors for some reason, until after 3:00 am on both Friday & Saturday nights. Furthetmore, the balcony lights remain on until late at night and cannot be shut off by guests, & since there are shutters but no curtains, that light shines through brightly into the room. Needless to say, we got very little sleep & were never well-rested while there. The pool area is nice, but wasn't being overseen, so there were several non-guests there "just for the day". And as often occurs, some children took over most of the pool for a portion of the days with their games and floats. Bongos, the outdoor bar/restaurant, has an excellent location for watching the beach & sunsets. Prices are a little high, in line with most tourist spots, and the food was average. Our server the 1st night was atrocious in that she forgot our drink orders no less than 3 times, but we had decent service on a subsequent visit. When checking out, I attempted to make the desk clerk aware of the issues, but he wasn't interested, telling me to fill out a comment card instead. NOTE: We walked down the beach to Tradewinds Guy Harvey Outpost each morning for coffee and were so impressed, we decided we will stay THERE instead next time we visit St. Pete Beach!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the south side of the hotel, away from the elevators & not overlooking the out...

We have been going to the Grand Plaza for years, even before it was the Grand Plaza, although the rooms are smaller now, and they have a lot of weddings which seem to cause a little more comotion and crowds, the staff are all great and friendly, except some of the waitresses in the beach bar that if you have a party of more than 6, don't give you very good service because they know they are going to get a 15% tip anyway. But the beach is beautiful and the rooms are clean and Spinners is fantastic, the food was better than ever.
