“Very close to perfection.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2009

My buddy and I decided that we needed a nice inexpensive place to get away for a few days and I got an excellent deal at the Sirata, through Expedia.com. Anyways, we are two single guys in our late 30's.(39 to be exact) and we were hoping to be able to find some nice, single ladies at the beach.
First thing I can tell you is that the Sirata is no place for singles. The Tiki bars close at around 8pm every night. I asked the bartender why they closed so early and was informed that they get many complaints from the guests about the noise when they try to stay open.
The service was excellent, the rooms have all been redone and they now include large, flat panel HDTV. My buddy and I shared a room with two queen beds which worked our perfect for us. Our room had a beautiful view of the beach, however we did not have a private balcony which was fine with me. I was planning to spend most of my time relaxing on the beach at a tiki bar. This resort was very quiet at night. It seemed like everyone dissappeared after 8pm.
The best thing about this resort is it's proximity to the other bars and restaurants in the area. I found a great Tiki bar named "Bahama Mama's" right next door to the Sirata. This Tiki bar opened at 11am and didn't close until 2am every day!!! You can easily walk there from the Sirata as I said, it is literally a 2 minute walk on the beach.
I would most definitely stay here again as it was nicely kept up and the service staff was excellent. However, I would not recommend this resort if you are looking to hook-up with a nice single lady. Most of the people there were couples and families. The few single women I saw here were much older than myself. I had success meeting the ladies next door at Bahama Mama's!!!

Stayed two days in Feb. Got a room facing the beach and watched two awesome sunsets. The room was very basic, the beds were fair as far as comfort goes. The bathroom is old and has seen better days. Overall it was pretty clean. The beach is literally steps away. The pools were kind of small but the beach is the main attraction. I saw to many mothers bringing small children into the jacuzzi and that doesn't bode well for the the water. Parking was 8.00 a night. 15.00 dollars to rent beach chairs. There are a couple of bars near the pools serving overpriced drinks. There is one restaurant that produces the food for the entire place. It was very quiet at night but I can guess that if you went during Spring Break or the summer it might not be the case. Overall for the price coupled with the location it is an OK place.

Stayed here Feb. 2009. We had a room (4430) with a jacuzzi, balcony and king bed. Overall the room was nice, clean, new carpet, and decent furniture, and a functional but well work little fridge, sink and stove. This is especially impressive considering this is a family hotel (forget the "resort" name) and gets lots of use. The hotel was booked solid the days we were there. The staff was very friendly, the beach was great.

The only disappointment was the breakfast at the Compass Grill. The menu sounded great, but the eggs were seemed like they were powdered, the pancakes oversteamed until they were crunchy, and the biscuits and gravy not too good. I would say that Denny's is much better.

I have no real complaints about the hotel, but thought a review would worth filing because the hotel's website makes it look fantastic when it really is an upscale motel.

The first key point is that the door to your room opens not to an internal hallway or into the hotel itself but rather to the outside, like any other motel. Not the biggest of deals but the rooms have a big window and so those walking by your room are literaly inches away - not much of a feeling of privacy. It also means that sounds echo and cleaning personnel are loud as they wheel their equipment on the cement floor.

However, the people are nice, friendly, the rates reasonable. the beach of course is great, and there is a nice bar on the beach. So all in all, not a bad place, just far from a luxury resort with deluxe accommodations. Oh, and a shower head at a level made for someone 5 foot 4.

  • Liked — beach
  • Disliked — age of facility and need for upgrades

we stayed at st pete beach during our superbowl trip (go steelers!!!) we had stayed there several years ago when i would have only given the resort a c+/b- rating (the grounds were beautiful but the rooms and interiors seemed worn) so i was not expecting to be as pleased with the experience as i was.
the grounds are beautiful and in immaculate condition. the hallways, lobby, restaurants, etc were all very clean and well maintained. it seemed as if everything had been repainted and refurbished since our last visit. the courtyard, previously a cookout/hangout spot that was noisy and messy seemed pristine, a calm seating area with well maintained plantings and fountains. there are 3 pools, (one heated) and a spa. there is an exercise room and a large laundry for guests. there is playground equipment for kids and beach rentals.
the beach itself is magnificent and you can walk all the way from the sirata to pass-a-grille beach to the south.
the staff people were friendly and responsive. they certainly seemed efficient and helpful as far as we were concerned. they held our superbowl tickets which we had fedexed to the hotel securely, they recommended good restaurants and they arranged transport to the airport for one son at a very decent rate. we used the business center for the internet at no charge.
we had a queen suite, which had two queen beds, a smallish bath/vanity area, and a small living room with a fold out sofa and kitchenette and small balcony. 2 big plasma tvs. it was plenty big for our family of 4 adults to share without feeling cramped. our housekeeper kept the room very clean.
so my negative feedback is minimal...the vanity sink drain was slow, the toilet tank didn't stop filling (bad for the environment to waste water). the sheets did keep coming off the bed (someone else mentioned that) and one mattress has seen better days (the springs were "spronging")
if you go i recommend staying on one of the higher floors to avoid looking out on to the flat roof of the courtyard rooms below and to minimize the noise.
i am aware that we visited during a less busy time of the year, so it would be interesting to see if the cleanliness is maintained during busier times, but i was very impressed.
It's tough to impress a Virgo like me!
one great thing is the iguana rescue work they do. they have rescued iguanas from abuse or abandonment (some from hurricane katrina) and work with local vets to give them a wonderful home and second chance at life. the sirada should be commended for that!! make sure to visit the iguana colony.
i would definitely return.

This hotel has several pluses: It's directly on the sand, large and clean rooms, clean pools (one reserved for adults only), bar right by the pool with poolside service at no extra charge, good freebie toiletries in the room. Depending on your tastes having a bar by the pool is good or bad though they were very accomodating about non-alcoholic versions of drinks and had sodas and bottled water. No coolers are allowed in the pool area. Very yummy virgin coladas. Con: a little pricy for a drink with no alcohol. Sodas were also a little pricy, an issue which we solved by keeping sodas in the fridge in the room and bringing down a can or two in our beach bag. The bartenders were nice about keeping us supplied with ice (daily tips helped I'm sure.) The maids cleaned the room daily while we were gone including doing dishes and were super about leaving me extra shampoo (I have long hair) when I left a note.

It was worth it to me to pay for the beach chairs as we would have fried without the cover and it saved us the trouble of schlepping chairs and umbrellas to the beach and back each day. It was included in a daily fee of $15 per room per day (parking, beach cabana chair for 2, business center access, daily newspaper, etc.) Parking alone is $8 a day anyways. Just be sure that you don't pay for the beach chair part for your first and last day if you are not using the beach those days. We paid $15 for 2 days and $8 for 2 days as we used the beach only 2 days.

We booked through the hotel directly and got a special rate for "run of the house" which nabbed us a king suite with kitchenette for the same price the regular hotel rooms would have been. It was a 2 room suite with the comfy king bed separated from the living area/kitchenette by the bathroom. The bathroon has a vanity area which is great for getting ready while the other person is in the shower. Pull out sofa and TV in living area. Another TV in bedroom. Nice size balcony facing the intercoastal waterway. Sunsets are pretty awesome so we just went down to the beach to see them. The restaurant next door was pretty good. Don't be surprised at food prices since anything on the beach will be more than normal. Durango's steakhouse downstairs was closed and I'm not sure what they are replacing it with. There's a Publix supermarket right up the street and a big souvenir shop across the street with tshirts and such. You can catch the cheap beach trolley a block down to get to St John's Pass and its touristy, kitchy and fun shopping, restaurants, bars and pirate cruises.

We had a very nice time just lounging around and enjoying our last few quiet days as a kidless couple alone. We are locals from Tampa Bay and we plan to go back as soon as our baby is old enough to know sand is not for eating.

  • Liked — Right on the beach! Nice pools.
  • Disliked — Parking fees separate from room rate. But this is pretty standard in the area as parking is at a premium.

We stayed here from December 31 until January 4, 2009.
This was our last hotel during our 14 days vacation in Florida.
The room was clean, we got ocean view in building although we didn't book this. The beach view is great. They have 3 pools, but not all of them are heated. Although the resort is quite large it wasn't noisy at all. They offer great breakfast at the Compass Grille and we had quite some fun with the waitor.
Would definetely come back again.
