“Great Place for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

November 2012. I was looking for a place to stay a weekend with my boyfriend and my mom. I came across this place based on budget and location. For the price we paid, this was a great place to stay. The view of the Gulf was beautiful. One morning we even saw the faint outlines of a couple dolphins in the water. By the time I ran to get pics they were gone, but just knowing and seeing them was a great experience. They have a firepit outside where people from all over the world gathered and we had cocktails and talked. Two of the 3 pools were open, we went during off season. They claimed the pools were heated, but they did not feel heated to me, so that was a little hard to enjoy. The food served by the restaurants/bars from the hotels were delicious. The bathrooms in the part of the hotel we stayed in were very small.

Stayed here 5 days during the first week in April and it was very busy. Pros - All staff was very pleasant and helpful, rooms were very clean, great views and beach. Cons - small bathrooms, the room safe was installed directly in the center of the closet and had to take the sliding doors off to open it, the pool chairs were taken by 8:00am and never had pool towels except the last day when it rained. The bar noise was reduced at 9:00 each night so it didn't bother us.

Had a nice time at the Sirata, Beach very nice, pools got very crowded. Had two rooms First room in Building 1 room 1750 Beautiful, great room, very large perfect view, extra large balcony. Other room building 3 facing pool had an odor of being wet, not terrible, mentioned it a few times but no one got back to me. Kathy at Rum Runners very very helpful, very accommodating to my elderly mom, thank you Kathy! Over all our stay was really great, just wished the music would play till at least 10 or 11 pm, and that the fire pit would stay on longer.

Room Tip: room 1750 great, king bed in separate room, nice big bathroom, large double balcony facing Gulf G...

So, this is one of those mom & pop motels which probably sprung up in the 60's and then they began to buy the adjacent properties and expanded. I was cautious when booking this as the reviews were mixed across the board - service and accommodations. There were many things I was very impressed with - the resort itself is lovely - clean, beautiful beaches, hammocks spread across the property, beach volleyball, lots of activities for kids. The service was good, and friendly for the most part. This is the height of the busy season, so I get it - there are many demands and patience is stretched thin. No excuse, but some of the staff were snarky at times, although this was minimal. Most were cordial and accommodating. The other pleasant surprise was the food quality and service - this isn't 5 star dining, it's beachfront resort - but they do it well and have something to offer for everyone.

Some items I was not 100% happy with - the room first and foremost. Tiny, old, musty-smelling, probably because the A/C unit pumps moisture into the room as long as you have it running. The carpet was damp most of the time, and I'm not sure how to fix that except to completely revamp the room and the HVAC system. Having windows which open would be nice too - fresh air would have helped. To stay longer than a weekend, get a suite - the rooms are larger although there's no real "living area" in the ones I was able to peek into. There is no closet - there is a bar which hangs in the bathroom vanity area. There is a decent sized refrigerator and a flat screen TV (small though).

One other item - in the busy season, the poolside beach chairs and beach cabanas would be gone by 7:30 - 8am by other guests. The cabanas are $15 for the day, but I think you can get parking and a cabana for $20 a day (parking is $8). Guests will place towels on the beach chairs early in the morning to claim their territory for the day and there are virtually no empty spots poolside by 9am. The staff will try to police this, but it goes on throughout the day. Again, this was peak season with lots of families. Other times may be different.

There was live music every night at one of the two beach bars, which was fun and didn't disturb us - our room was courtyard-side. There is a guest coin laundry which was popular also.

Overall, it was a good stay but the older guest rooms really need an overhaul, especially at almost $300/night with tax.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in a newer tower, or a suite.

Stayed here in February. We had booked this hotel through Travel Republic and had emailed the hotel twice as we were concerned about the bad reviews mentioning the dated rooms, We had been assured that all the rooms would be updated by the time we arrived. The room we had was clean but very basic and the bathroom had no been updated for some time. The exterior walkway to our room was very dismal and shabby. The pool area was nice as was the bar and the beach is really lovely. The price paid for this room was way to high and obviously not all rooms have been updated maybe just a new bedspread!! We found a lovely motel which was half the price of the Sirata for the second week of our holiday and will not be returning to the Sirata again.

The good - Rum Runners bar with beach views. The weather was chilly our weekend and rum runners can lower the sides and put space heaters on by the bar and there is also a fireplace in same area, The casual food ordered there was good. The bad - dated hotel, room smelt like they were covering something up, small blood stain on mattress (luckily we had two queens), They tried to update the rooms, but having one sink and a very small bathroom with very poor water pressure stank! Hotel needs to be painted and updated. It felt like I stayed at an older Holiday Inn. Over priced at $260 a night. I pay way less at awesome on-site hotels at Universal. Would have rather gone there. Parking can be a pia, but we were lucky they opened the area by the pool.

Room Tip: Select a room overlooking the bar by Rum Runners or the court yard rooms which have a little terranc...

After days of bad weather we finally caught a great day Saturday. Around this time of year, we take the fam and head out to Sirata for some sun, drinks, food and fun with our friends by the pool. This time our experience at our favorite place was not as fun. Upon arrival to the hotel gate, an older guy who was apparently the gate guard, told us in a very rude manner, parking is full. I asked "can I park across the street, I saw a couple of spots"? His response was short...but not sweet. "NO, parking is for hotel guests only!" Huh? since when? Am I not a paying customer? So, we found a parking spot and had to walk with two small children quite a distance! After walking back to the hotel, tightly holding my kids' hands trying to cross Gulf Blvd and several "are we there yet" I saw several parking spaces both across the street and in the main parking lot. We headed towards Rum runners, where our friends were waiting for us and my husband went to the bar to get a drink who was greeted with a cold "hey, bro...what can I do for you?" At this point, our day was not going so well, we thought about leaving since we were all in a bad mood after it took FOREVER to find a parking spot and having "Dude" for a bartender, AND the not so clean jacuzzi, but, we decided to stay for the kids who were already jumping in the pool, at least to get something to eat, and we are so glad we did. The food was awesome, as usual...we ordered coconut shrimps, and burgers for the kids, all recommended by our server Dominic, who apologized for our ordeal and who put up with our kids spilling two drinks and brought them new ones and was kind and friendly the whole time so much so that he put smiles back on our faces. Hotels such as the Sirata should keep in mind that the locals support their business too! Tourists come and go, but locals such as myself and plenty of my friends, come all the time....for years now! I loved the renovations made to the Rum runners, it helped especially when the sun went down and the heaters were turned on!
