“Right on the Beach and a real gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

I stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much. The room was very nuce, clean very well furnished in a sympathetic way with all you need, sofa,tv,coffee maker , fridge etc .
The owners are great welcoming you when you arrive.
Breakfast is freshly cooked and you eat with other guests so get to know some very nuce and interesting people.
You are right on the beach and only 10 mins from historic St Augustine city. Plenty of places to eat and drink close to the B&B , owners can recommend some great places
Enjoy

We had an excellent stay, comfortable room, fantastic breakfasts, beautiful grounds and right on the beach! The owner & staff went out of their way to accommodate, and treated us like family. We enjoyed the heated pool also. We will definitely make this one of our go to spots!

Our room was lovely with a great waterfront view of the ocean and dunes. The landscaping around the bed and breakfast are grand. They are located within a short walking distance to catch a hourly shuttle into the old city of St. Augustine but there were some good restaurants nearby also. Friendly owners and staff. A quiet, private and romantic getaway!

My wife and I wanted to have a couple of days at the beach with some other activities available. Neither of us had ever been to St Augustine of stayed in a B&B. Beachfront B&B is very well decorated and on the beach, the grounds are beautiful and there were fresh flowers in the room every morning and in the common area every day. The breakfasts were on time and very nice. Although they were not huge, they were well prepared and very tasty. As expected in Florida, there was constant OJ refills and coffee. We will stay there again when in the area.

Room Tip: The Royal Palm does not have an ocean view but is very quiet and the Decor is very well done.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Beachfront Bed & Breakfast. The property is very well taken care of, directly on the ocean with a spectacular view, and the rooms are beautiful. The breakfast included was delicious and the staff was extremely attentive, ensuring everyone was pleased with their experience. Would definitely recommend and we cannot wait to stay again!

The wife and I went over for a quick 3 day vacation a few weeks ago. Excellent is all I can say. Room was perfect. Clean. Nice and quiet. No kids around. Perfect. Best location. Easy access to the beach. Great view. Plan to visit again. Great place to get away. No issues. No hassles.

Room Tip: top floor rooms are where we stayed

My fiancé and I have only just started “dabbling” into the B&B experience, with having our 1st stay last year at a B&B located in the “Old Town” of St. Augustine, Florida. THAT B&B defined the quintessential meaning of a BED AND BREAFKAST for us and set our expectations for any other B&Bs.

Fast forward to this year and we decided to travel back to St. Augustine as we are just in love with the history and the cobblestone streets, the Basilica Cathedral, and the quaintness of St. George Street. This time, we decided to have the best of both worlds … let’s stay at a B&B on the beach, with the ability to drive to Old Town for daytime visits or evening dining.

We started our research on Trip Advisor and came upon Beachfront Bed and Breakfast. Reviews were good so we decided to give it a shot.

Let’s start with the “Pros”. The staff (Dena and Christie) were very friendly and recommended restaurants in the area; the B&B is right on the beach; the beds were very comfortable; the a/c was very comfortable, although you cannot adjust the temperature. The B&B is very private because it is located on a dead-end street with direct access to the beach. They provide bikes and other beach equipment. The B&B provides free Wi-Fi; however the signal is not very strong. The outdoor pool was always clean and it was very refreshing and used daily, and we quite literally had it all to ourselves. The ocean was over the dune, and quite beautiful.

Now the “Cons”. There was a mix-up with our reservation, they had us down to stay for 3 nights; we intended to stay for 4. The 1st 3 nights we stayed in the Surfside room and had ZERO cell phone strength or signal. We had to get out of our room to use our phones. While we appreciate a true “getaway feeling”, it’s important (as we all know) that family can reach you in case of emergency. While it was nice to have a microwave and mini-fridge in the room, there was no ice, no paper plates or paper towels or plastic cutlery. Despite it being noted as the largest room on the property, it had very low ceilings (if you are 6’ or taller, or have a girth 45+ inches, we would not recommend the Surfside).

Breakfast was ok with small portions. It consisted of (1st day) 1 waffle with 2 small (maybe 2 inches) sausage links, and a very small plastic cup of fruit. (Day 2) 1 slice of typical frozen size French toast; same small cup of fruit, and same small size of sausage links. (Day 3) was 1 pie-slice of egg quiche, small fruit cup and 2 small sausage links. There were never 2nd offerings, and you are awakened every morning via phone to be asked if you are attending breakfast. Our first morning we chose to stay in, so they offered to bring us our breakfast to our room. They kept calling us every morning at 9 am. That was a misunderstanding. Our check-in person told us that breakfast was served from 9 to 10 am (we assumed it was ANYTIME between 9 and 10am). Instead, it truly meant breakfast is served precisely at 9 am as the kitchen needs to be closed by 10 am. We felt rushed every morning to get out and have breakfast. Breakfast is one of the main reasons to choose at B&B in our opinion. Sad to say, breakfast here is not what we expected and we were very disappointed.

Our last evening we were moved to the Sea Breeze room, which is upstairs, in the main house. While the décor was certainly more B&B inspired, there is no privacy, as the door is connected to the main dining area, and there are 3 other rooms sharing the space.

We would suggest just some simple “nice to haves” that Bed and Breakfasts are most famous for ...
• Attention to detail (having a fuller, more presentable breakfast);
• While coffee and fountain water are offered upstairs, it would be good to have a small refrigerator filled with cold water and/or soft drinks for the guests to take with them for their daily outings;
• Alternatives for the breakfast would be great … maybe having cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, fresh fruit, etc.
• Offering afternoon cordials/desserts (perhaps mini petit-fours; pastries; or even Otis Spunkmeyer cookies) and a choice of brandy or whisky;
• An ice maker on premise rather than us having to buy ice at a gas station or walk to their sister property to have a small bucket of ice.
• Perhaps a roll of paper towels and some paper plates, in case the guests come back to their rooms with some finger foods.

Our overall experience was a 2 out of a 5 stars... and this is based on “price to value”, based on our past experiences. We feel it was overpriced for what we were expecting vs. what we received.

We did not meet the owner until last morning before leaving (we had a 4-night stay), who was there to show her friend the new table that had a marble top, and then they were off to go “antiquing”. We felt she was very unprofessional, as she should have greeted every one of her guests to her home and to ask how their stay is. However both Dena and Christie were there every morning to serve breakfast and help us in any way possible. They run the entire property and are very capable people. My fiancé had the opportunity to discuss many of above points with Dena who was always very professional and courteous as well as Christie. They are the engine that runs Beachfront B&B and we commend them for that.

Once again, we want to reiterate that Dena and Christie were very accommodating; we just feel that the price to value was not up what we expected. We personally would not come back to the Beachfront B&B. It did not meet our expectations. It is more of an Inn than a St. Augustine B&B for us. We suggest that you check other B&Bs in the St. Augustine area so you can see for yourselves what we mean.

Room Tip: If you are 6’ or taller, or have a girth 45+ inches, we would not recommend the Surfside. Also there...

Thank you for your comments. Dena and Christy we agree that they are wonderful and know the area and can give you the best places to go. Our heated pool and outdoor Jacuzzi are favorites of our guests at our 3 acre oceanfront B & B.
We do send an instant confirmation that outlines the dates of a guest stay; we apologize for any inconvenience in your changing rooms.
Our B & B is one that is a romantic getaway for couples so we provide all the items that we feel our guests need and let them enjoy being together without our hovering around them; it's just how we feel most of our guests would like it.
Surfside is a popular suite with 9 foot ceilings except for an 6 x 8 foot area between the main room and the bathroom and dressing areas. I am 6' 4 " so I am observant of low ceilings.
We offer 3 different room types each unique and all with multiple photos online to give our potential guests the information they need to select just the right room for them. Surfside has more of a Tommy Bahama decor while Sea Breeze has wood floors and antiques while the cottage rooms are cottage style.
We offer our guests seconds and other items at breakfast such as to those who may be vegans that may want other items. We call the rooms as a courtesy after 9 am just to be sure guests don't miss our delicious breakfast and we can serve later or deliver to the room, no problem.
Our guests are our number 1 priority and we run errands to go to the market to purchase fresh foods for breakfast but are always available. We have place paper plates, dinnerware, napkins, cookies, coffee, teas on the Verandah so that all guests can have access to these items at all times.
My wife was excited about the new table and apologizes for not spending more time with you. She did find a beautiful table that day that went into your room, Sea Breeze.
We have Verizon as our personal cell phone provider and there is good service here but AT&T is not very strong; wish that was under our control.
Great that you enjoyed our oceanfront location, beach access and quiet time at our pool.
