We came to Florida to look at colleges and added three days at the for St Augustine Beach, so glad we did. The beach is beautiful with powdery white sand and closer to the water, a very wide band of hard but easy to walk on sand. We saw people biking on it, jogging and of course walking and admiring the ocean. Because the beach area is so wide, you feel like it is your own private beach. We were there Spring Break week and never felt boxed in. There were plenty of shells washed up daily. Oh and the dogs.... It is a pet friendly beach. The ocean makes dogs happy too! One really cool thing is you can drive your car on the beach. There is a fee (on a cloudy day, there was no fee but on a sunny day it was $7). We were pretty lucky that the condo we stayed at was right on the beach. If we were a little further away being able to load the car and drive on the beach would have been great. We drove it a few times, on a cold day where just seeing the ocean cheers you up and on our last day so we could spend a couple more hours on the beach after checking out of the hotel. There are port a pots on the beach for emergencies. I avoided them but hubby said they were clean.
