“Super Helpful Staff..property could use some upgrading..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

We stayed at this property just one night. The staff were quite refreshingly kind and helpful in every way they could offering directions and asking if there was anything they could do to make our stay more comfortable. My 12 year old daughter even commented on how very polite the people at the front desk were. The room was large and having a full kitchenette was really great. Everything was in working order and the windows even seemed new so no problems there. The downside was that the room itsself could use some work in the way of paint and new flooring. The carpet had a lot of stains. I kept my shoes on. The beds were clean but hard and the blankets standard motel type. Otherwise the room was basically clean in a way that an old building in need of refurbishing would be. We stayed one night as we were just passing thru and we had our own food so I cannot comment on what the area offered and don't know what the Continental Breakfast was like. We called a couple of days ahead to ask for a better rate than what was posted online. This paid off as it sometimes does. It was worth what we paid.

Room Tip: Call ahead as far as you can to get Queen beds if you need a room for 4 or more persons and to get t...

Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to post a review on tripadvisor.com We are always thankful for your business ! Yes, We believe that responding to reviews shows that we are listening and we actually care; We always say this is not a brand new hotel; it was built in 1999, but we carryout renovations, some major continuously. it's a way to reinforce the positive and change perceptions when negative. Our goal is to not only meet the needs of each and every guest we serve, but to exceed your expectations to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. We admit we are a no-frills motel, but what we sell is clean rooms with ambience of its kind in the motel. What is more is that we sell the service environment - we have staff with great attitude and are here to help and go above and beyond.
Our savvy travelers know it’s best to hear both sides of the story to get the most complete picture of potential travel destinations. We are sorry to hear about your discomfort with the beds and carpets, although everything we use is, and has to be, brand approved; your points have been noted and we will address them. We must point out that we run very high occupancies, We are conscious of the fact that the carpets can get dirty quicker than for an interior-corridor motel. We are continuously shampooing and cleaning carpets in rooms.
Also we are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed it. It’s good to hear how much value you got for your money spent with us. It’s great to hear how friendly our employees were during your visit with us at Travelodge suite ( old town) St.augustine. we take immense pride in making sure our guests feel welcomed during their stay. We will make sure these employees are recognized for their great work.

We look forward to seeing you and your friends and family in the future.

“Basic needs met”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

This hotel is on the outskirts of downtown old town, which is a plus if you want to escape from all the music and late night clubs. I did find it amazing that there were no sidewalks where we could safely walk to town (about a 3 mile walk) but this is not in direct reflection of the hotel outside of location. We were greeted immediately and were provided with coupons, directions to Old Town and several recommendations. The room itself seemed clean and tidy. There was a large 1/2 size refrigerator, mini-microwave, small coffee pot with iron and ironing board. The basic necessities were provided.

Cleanliness: tidy, no obvious stains, markins. Bathroom was clean, no mold or rust.
Bed: Firm, linens freshly washed (no stains), additional pillows in the dresser.
TV: Selections of shows were adequate - we didn't watch much TV - outside of checking out the local news or sports channel.
Basic small bottle of soap and hand soap.
Towels: small - as previously mentioned from other reviews scratchy, definitely not soft
Continental breakfast: Choice of raisin bran or a small honey bun and coffee - suggest planning on going out for breakfast or bring your own.

When staying at a economical hotel/motel, I am not expecting the Ritz - just a clean place to lay my head and this hotel provided that. The only time we were actually in the room was just for sleeping, showering, changing clothes and heading back to town. The day we were leaving I did smell insense burning.

Would I stay here again? Yes

“My place to stay in St. Augustine....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

Aside from a B&B, I have never met friendlier proprietors that really go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It's a pleasure to make reservations, very accommodating--I feel like they know us personally! The area is quiet, the rooms are clean, NO BED BUGS! If you want a complimentary cup of coffee or a bowl of cereal, the front office has it available. We have no complaints.

Room Tip: If you're looking for 4 & 5 star accommodations then go to the Casa Monica or a B&B and...

“Oh dear”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012 via mobile

The owners/managers (not sure which) were so nice, I hate to give a negative review, but this motel badly needs some refurbishing. Other reviewers have already mentioned the scratchy towels and the distance from the historical center of the town. We walked it and it is 1 - 3 miles, depending on where you are going. The room was clean but neded paint, esp the ceilings, and there were deep cracks between the walls and floor which needed caulking in the bathroom. The safe was broken and the blanket had holes and rips in it. Many of them. The fan did work and blocked out street noise and the bed was reasonably comfortable. Oh yes, there was not enough hot water for 2 showers either morning of the 2 days we stayed. I think the motel could be made to be much nicer and more comfortable by fixing these things.

Our hospitality services have strengthened over the years through our guests reviews, so once again thank you. In addition, please know that your comments and issues will be addressed.
We love having "Oh dear " guests, such as you, because guests of your nature help us achieve our highest caliber, as you are the catalysts that spark us into action to better our facility.

1.We take pride in the fact that we comply fully with all franchise operational standards.
2.We always say this is not a brand new hotel; it was built in 1999, but we go through major renovations frequently.
3.Understandably, in your case we are always here to educate how to use some of facilitiy such as hot/cold water faucet in bath room, safe box, microwave ,coffee maker , air conditioner, electronic door lock your room.
4.Here in St. Augustine Florida, the Historic District is 2 miles north to south and 1.5 miles east to west. We are located to north side of historic district, and all attraction are within driving distance from our location; such that guests can use our location and make day trips to these destinations. We do not post that we are in walking distance because some people can not walk a half-mile or mile. In St. Augustine, there are two trolley tours: one run by Old Town Trolleys, and another by Ripley's Believe It or Not! Trolley. These trollies take guests everywhere in town, with stops at every attraction. Upon request, the trollies will even send a free shuttle, which will take guests from the Trolley's base to the hotel, or visa versa.
We look forward to seeing you and your friends and family in the future.

“Not very close to the Old Town!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

This hotel is in serious need of some modernisation!! The staff seemed friendly enough. The facilities were very basic, the pool was right on the road and you wouldn't want to sit around it!

Unfortunately we picked the hotel as it was supposed to be close to the town but we had to drive in and pay for parking and in the evening we had to get a taxi which added to the cost of the stay.

The old town is very nice but be warned the restaurants stop serving early and we struggled to find somewhere to eat! The trolley bus tour is good if you are staying for a few days to use as a means of transport.
