We found this to be a good deal for our weekend stay in St. Augustine and it seemed like a nice property from the photos on their website and the rates were good $85/night on the weekend so we thought we would give it a try.
We arrived and the staff was friendly, however when we got into our first room it smelled horrendous of an awful fishy smell. We thought, ok maybe some fisherman stayed in the room let's just go ask for another. I explained the situation to the staff and apologized for being picky, but the room really did have a foul odor. They were curteous and apologized and promptly set us up with another room. We went to the new room and as soon as we walked in, there was a musty smell. I thought - ok, it's late and I don't feel like searching for another place to stay, we will probably get used to the smell in a few minutes. We unpacked our stuff and were in the room for about 10 minutes and we didn't "get used to" the smell, in fact it was so strong that me and my wife became sick to our stomach and we couldn't hack it so we left and they apologized and refunded our money. We went across the street to the Castillo Real hotel which we thought would be too expensive, but it turned out that a comparable room is normally 129 but they gave it to us for 109 since it was late. Man, for the $25 extra, it was very nice and I'm glad we left the Days Inn. That was my last chance for Days Inn as I've had nothing but bad experiences the past several of them that I've stayed in. I will never go back to a Days Inn again.
