I have been to England to taste real Fish n Chips. I try them where they serve them here in the States. So far this place servers the best Fish n Chips! I moved here to St Augustine and go there often now, sometimes swamping them unexpectedly with the local Mini Cooper club for lunch (I should be considerate and phone ahead but they have been able to accommodate us every time). Both my wife and daughter are not big fish fans but they both eat the Fish n Chips here. As a matter of fact, my daughter is with me part time, always wants to go here for Fish n Chips. It is the place we bring guests visiting us from out of town.
Things to know, the restaurant is small and gets packed at the lunch and dinner hours. Service may be slow at this time but they are busy making sure the quality of the food is just right when it gets to you. Tony the owner and his wife are there a lot. You will know Tony when you see him, he is an Ex Pat with a wicked sense of humor with an unusual haircut. He also loves to try and to get the guests to ask about Spotted Dick. It is excellent by the way, as is the Sticky Toffee pudding. If Fish is not your thing, there is plenty of other stuff on the menu to try. The Cottage Pie and Curry Chicken is excellent. My wife's other favorite is the Coronation Chicken.
On one occasion she was also brave enough to try the heart stopping Beer Batter Burger. I will contest that I took a bite and it was great, although I could feel my arteries clogging.
My recommendation when you are here in St Augustine, visit the Prince of Wales.
