Hubby & I came here our 1st night in St Augustine based on good things said in the forum. It's itty bitty, but loaded with character. I wouldn't call it a comfortable place, hard wooden seats aren't my favorite. It's not a place I'd linger all night sipping drinks, but it's good for a quick bite. My fish & chips were great, the fish really fresh. Hubby was disappointed with his pastie, which he called "very Ren(naissance) Fair." So I gave him a big portion of my fish to supplement his meal. As I used to live in England, I'm always looking for authentic pub-like places in the U.S. This doesn't rate high on my authentic meter simply because the atmosphere isnt conducive to hanging out with friends & knocking back pints all night. This is due to its tiny size & uncomfortable seating.
Would go again, but wouldn't necessarily go out of our way for it.

Just returned from a 2 day stay in St. Augustine. We ate at The Prince of Wales 3 times...what does that tell you? It is THE BEST place in St. Augustine. Try the Beer Battered Burger...it's awesome... So is the Pub Salad, the Cottage Pie and the burger with bleu cheese. We didn't try the fish and chips, but we saw others order it and it is the biggest piece of fish I've ever seen! What a great value. The beer is ice cold too! Great music, great staff and wonderful chef!

I must admit that at first I didn't want to eat here as the saying goes "when in Rome...." However, my 14 year old daughter insisted and I'm so glad that she did. The beer-battered onion rings were heavenly and plentiful. The service here was wonderful and cannot be faulted. We personally did not see Tony the expat with his unusual haircut[?] I don't think that the food needs gimmicks. It was fairly priced and delicious. Didn't have the puddings[Birds Custard-yuk] will be going back there next year without doubt. Lovely.

“Best English Fish n Chips in the States!”

I have been to England to taste real Fish n Chips. I try them where they serve them here in the States. So far this place servers the best Fish n Chips! I moved here to St Augustine and go there often now, sometimes swamping them unexpectedly with the local Mini Cooper club for lunch (I should be considerate and phone ahead but they have been able to accommodate us every time). Both my wife and daughter are not big fish fans but they both eat the Fish n Chips here. As a matter of fact, my daughter is with me part time, always wants to go here for Fish n Chips. It is the place we bring guests visiting us from out of town.

Things to know, the restaurant is small and gets packed at the lunch and dinner hours. Service may be slow at this time but they are busy making sure the quality of the food is just right when it gets to you. Tony the owner and his wife are there a lot. You will know Tony when you see him, he is an Ex Pat with a wicked sense of humor with an unusual haircut. He also loves to try and to get the guests to ask about Spotted Dick. It is excellent by the way, as is the Sticky Toffee pudding. If Fish is not your thing, there is plenty of other stuff on the menu to try. The Cottage Pie and Curry Chicken is excellent. My wife's other favorite is the Coronation Chicken.

On one occasion she was also brave enough to try the heart stopping Beer Batter Burger. I will contest that I took a bite and it was great, although I could feel my arteries clogging.

My recommendation when you are here in St Augustine, visit the Prince of Wales.
