“We didn't stay…”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

From the Florida map we thought this park was coastal. It's not. As others have said , it's a l-o-n-g drive back over pothole laced dirt roads.

When the ranger informed us that he could guarantee we'd encounter ticks ( kudos for his honesty), we moved up the road to Anastasia state park.

“Quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

We camped here for a few nights. The park is very quiet, which was nice. Only 30 sites. Our biggest complaint is there is no utility sink for washing dishes, which seems to be a common thing for some parks. Also no washing machine, if you use one while camping. There are plans to install a sink and machine, but not sure when. The showers need to be re-done, but they are certainly useable. Most sites are private from side to side with lots of vegetation between, but they are open to another site on the other side of the road. The bathhouse is in the middle, with a path between 9 & 11 and then to the south of 26. Sites on the north and south ends would be a little far in my opinion, if you needed to use the bathhouse toilets.

From our campsite to the parking garage in downtown St Augustine was 40 minutes (garage is $10 but worth it). There is a Walgreens about 12 miles up on 1.

Canoe rental is $5 an hour, but you need to reserve it (a day ahead is fine). We saw a gator while canoeing and lots of birds. The boat ramp and the fishing dock are nice, quite new.

I would come here again, once they get a utility sink installed.

“Needs a lot of Maintenance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

I have never complained about a park before, we have enjoyed many many parks in Florida. We visited this one last weekend just after it had rained. We came in a Mustang, and felt we really needed a Jeep. We could not go over 3 miles an hour on the roads and I think we busted a strut. The roads have huge holes in them and when filled with water it was scary to guess how deep the water was. The park recently had a fire so there wasn't much to see. We did see a deer, and some turkey's on the way to the park, but nothing inside the park. I will have to say this is the first time I didn't enjoy visiting a Florida State Park.

“Old Florida ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014

We came here to camp for the weekend. It's quite a way back to the campground on a dirt road full of pot holes/washouts, but saw beautiful scenery and deer while going 5 mph. The sites were pretty spacious and private. There are a few that are difficult to get into with a camper (we have 22 ft). We figured the best sites for our camper are: 11, 18,19, 26, 27.
We didn't get to do much though since it was rainy although it looks like there are trails to hike and a boat ramp.

“Meh”

30 pretty campsites. Great campground hosts but not a lot to do. I guess the fishing and bird watching are good but I'm not into either . They have canoe/kayak rentals but park closes around 5 in Dec. 30 to 45 min to historic St Augustine. $20 /night, ice and wood are sold at rangers office.
