I am still glowing from this past weekend stay at At Journey's End.
My husband and I were recovering from the stress of being hosts over the Christmas holiday. We needed a get -away from our Orlando area home, but did not want to travel far, hence our trip to St. Augustine. We prefer to stay at B&B's and small inns, and we are extremely picky on where we stay.
At Journey's End is on a quiet, safe street. Note: it is far removed from the noise and traffic of the tourist area, but you can easily walk to that area.
The inn has ample parking in the rear, grounds are well-maintained and decorated with cute garden ornaments. We were fortunate enough to be at A.J.E. while it and St. Augustine were still decorated for Christmas.
The downstairs common area interior is comforting, warm, inviting, yet romantic all at the same time. The room (Egypt) is upstairs, private, has its own porch, and a large jacuzzi. It overlooks the front of the inn where horse and buggies pass and faces tall Florida greenery (bamboo, palms). The interior decorating and lighting in the room and bathroom are romantic. The entire inn is spotlessly clean and kept at a comfortable temperature.
Ellen and John provided for all our needs. Bottled water is provided in the room. Downstairs a small refrigerator holds sodas, beer, and wine. Boiling hot water and various teas are always available. A pitcher was kept full of ice and water.
We were treated with fresh cookies, snacks, and candies available in the afternoon and throughout the night, as well as amaretto, port, and sherry. The breakfasts are outstanding, beginning with the best coffee, homemade granola, yogurt, and fresh fruit to hold you over while Ellen and John serve you a hot, delicious breakfast.
Ellen and John were the perfect hosts. They recommend where to eat, play tourist, and shop. More than anything, Ellen and John possess a special charisma that all B&B's hosts should. They are warm, uplifting, and know how to play "cupid." My husband and I highly recommend At Journey's End for a fun weekend of playing tourist, but more importantly, for a romantic getaway .
P.S. The "Celebration" Special which includes the best sparkling wine (champagne), glasses, gourmet chocolates, fresh flowers, bath brush, bath sponge, soap, and bubble bath is a bargain! My husband tried to buy the same sparkling wine here in town on our return and it was priced at $175.00!
