“Delicious crab cakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

We ate crab cakes and their own special salmon recipe, cauliflower au gratin, and delicious hush puppies. The food was really hot and so tasty! Generous serving of wine and husband loved his beer!

“Ok Seafood, but nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

My husband and I recently went to St. Augustine for a night and decided to try Barnacle Bills. The atmosphere was very casual, nothing fancy. Several customers waited at the hostess station to be seated while the servers hid in the back area. The food was OK, again, nothing fancy or special. We started with the New England Clam Chowder. It was very salty. My husband had the fried seafood platter, and I ordered the Fish of the day. Both meals came with a side and hush puppies. We both ordered the side of cole slaw. There was a taste to the cole slaw that is hard to explain, but I have had better. The hush puppies were terrible. At the end we ordered one dessert to share and had no alcohol. The bill came to over $60. Next time we go to St. Augustine, we will not go back.

“Very Good Food and Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I loved the restaurants "Matanza's" items on the menu. It is their version of a scampi and it was wonderful with shrimp and tilapia. The hush puppies were delish and my husband loved the fish tacos. The restaurant is located directly behind the large parking garage on Castillo Drive just off of San Marcos. It makes it easy to have a meal without leaving the historic district and very easy on the wallet. Will definitely eat here again.

“The food was pretty good, but overpriced.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

This was our third day in St Augustine so we had already enjoyed alot of great food. The prices here were about 2 to 4 dollars higher than similar entrees at the other places we had tried, but we enjoyed it. For appetizers we tried the alligator and calamari. They were both very good with delicious sauces for dipping. The fish tacos----fabulous. The sides were all very good also. The cons. The crab cakes were deep fried and not that great, avoid them. Atmosphere icky. Our server was nice one minute then a little abrupt the next, but efficient enough. Overall, we probably won't go back.

“Quick, good, reasonable.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Seafood is well prepared and varied. It is one of rare places that we could have alligator tail as an entrée or main dish. Portions are normal. Beer, meals, tax and tip for two was 50$
