We loved our stay at the Pirate Haus! We were in room #6, which I just read is supposedly haunted, although I felt no disturbance in the force.

This was my first stay at a hostel, and I thought it was great. It really depends on your own attitude and the folks that are there during your stay. I enjoyed meeting people from all over in the common living room. I also loved St. Augustine. The people were so friendly (eat at Maya) everywhere we went.

Relax, have an open mind, and you will have a great time!

We had the best vacation ever at the Pirate Haus. We cannot say enough about Captain Conrad and First Mate Elaine. When they say that this is Arghhhuably the best deal in St. Augustine they are not lying. We stayed for 15 days and now have become part of the pirate family. Not only did we stay in 3 of the private rooms but we also spent a night in the co-ed dorm. ALL of the rooms are great!!! Very clean, and very comfortable! If you have kids this is the place to go, if you want to meet people and experience more than just being a tourist this is the place! I cannot say enough about them, you get the FREE pirate pancake breakfast and if you are nice to the first mate she will give up the secret to them. The fully stocked kitchen is great for any chef and the BBQ pit on the roof is great! We met so many nice people and even ended up cooking dinner with Conrad, Elaine and another couple staying there.
The location is great --you are minutes from the beach, within walking distance of great resturants, and if you want to do the tourist stuff just take a few steps out the front door!!! If you stay in a private room, parking is free. Here is a suggestion: parking is very tight, it is nice if you bring a spare set of keys to leave with the Captain, sometimes you have to block others in and it is very nice if they can move your car for others. PARKING is a great bonus-- several of the Hotels or B&B's charge you or do not have parking!
The common room is the place to met your fellow travelers, they have computers, toys, books, games and a full video library. It also has nice couches and a great book of places to eat. If you stay please talk to the Captain and First mate-- they know EVERYTHING about the city and what it has to offer (there is more than just St. George Street) Talk to them they can help you on ANY budget!
If you are thinking that the Pirate Haus is just a family place think again they can turn ANY of there private rooms into a romatic getaway. We are talking flowers, chocolate, wine whatever you want they can help you do it!
I could go on and on about our stay, but all I can say is you need to try it out for yourself! We have made life long friends not only with the Captain and Elaine but, also with fellow travelers we would have never met if we did not stay here! Where else can you stay that EVERYONE says hello, goodnight and wants to hear what you did that day? If you want something more than just being the credit card number that checked into a hotel this is for you! The area is very safe, the staff is great, the value cannot be beat, and you will come home being part of the Pirate Haus Family!

  • Liked — EVERYTHING!!!! I cannot say enough.
  • Disliked — Nothing there was not one bad thing about the stay!
  • Tips/Secrets: — Leave a spare key if you have a private roome, be sure to talk with the Captain or Elaine they know what to do!
