“Would absolutely stay here again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2010

Clearly the reviewer complaining about beach access is reviewing the Holiday Inn on St. Augustine Beach and not the one in the historic district. I'm also dumbfounded after reading another review stating that this is not in the historic district. What? It is exactly where it states it is. I think you need to reserve a "Suite" if that is what you are looking for, if you are traveling with family/kids that may be a better option for you. As a couple, we found our room to be all that we needed with a queen size bed, a desk, microwave and mini fridge. Room was nice and clean with a big bathroom . We will definitely stay here again. The location was perfect for us (about a half mile from the fort and St. George Street) and the room was nice and clean. Saw some other hotels we considered staying in when we were there and were very glad we opted for this one, as others appeared quite run-down from the outside. This hotel looked pretty darn new to me. Overall we were very pleased with this hotel and will be staying here again for another long weekend of enjoying beautiful St. Augustine.

We travel with tour busses, parking lot is very difficult to maneuver. The property is not within the historic district - nearby is a correct assessment. When we checked in I asked if the room I was assigned was a suite as booked. The clerk said "They're all suites. And I can't change rooms anyway because you're with a group." Apparently the definition of 'suite' means one thing to Holiday Inn, and another to Webster's dictionary. Perhaps what they meant was that the otherwise average sized room had a couch. The rooms were otherwise fine, as typical Holiday Inn standards go - no more no less. But because of the parking problems, misuse of the word 'suite' and distance to the historic district, we cancelled our return trip the following week and will seek shelter where those of us without cars can actually walk to and through St. Augustine.

I chose this property from an on-line search because I felt it was close enough to the downtown district and was significantly less costly than most other nearby properties. It was about a half mile walk, but worth it. The property was either relatively new or had been updated recently. The rooms and property were nice and quiet. As I walked around the downtown district I saw some of the other properties I had considered, and while they were right in the middle of the district, they didn't appear as nice from the outside, and were certainly much more costly.

This Holiday Inn looks very attractive from the outside. Indeed it is very nice on the inside, as well. The problem is housekeeping. They have let the hotel slide and now the whole place has a dirty look and feel.

We rented 4 rooms while there and every person's tile floors were so dirty our shoes were sticking. We asked for Non Smoking rooms but were told they didn't have any. Then the front desk relented and said they had a few non smoking. One of those non smoking room had NOT been cleaned but the lady assured us that although the room was messy the sheets had been changed. Huh? It didn't look it. She offered to give us fresh sheets if we wanted. So, at 10p.m. we're changing sheets, spraying the bathroom with disinfectant and cleaning up what the maids did not do. We had already paid for the hotel on Priceline ($55 btw) so we couldn't exactly leave.

The hot tub did not have hot water but was cold.

This hotel could be very nice if new housekeeping was brought on board and the hotel given a thorough cleaning - including carpets!

We were very pleased with our non-smoking rooms -- once we got into them. We had reserved (and confirmed prior to our arrival) one suite and one double room - in close proximity to one another. Upon our arrival, we were told the last suite had been given away, and the best they could do was put us in two double rooms - one on the first floor, and another on the 4th floor (which was a smoking floor). Hotel manager, Joe Rodriquez, came to our rescue. He worked his magic and got us all on the first floor, in the types of rooms we had reserved. Thanks Joe! The rooms were very clean and well-priced. The location is wonderful - within walking distance to the Fountain of Youth, and all the attractions in historic north St. Augustine.

Stayed four nights. Hotel was not full. Room not cleaned first night and sweeper was not run at all the entire stay. Front desk staff were very helpful and answered all of our questions. No bar but the restaurant will serve in the evenings except they ran out! Walls must be thin to hallways. We heard people talking as they walked to their rooms all night.

I recently used my rewards points to stay for a reward night at this hotel. We were allowed to check in early, however it would seem we got the nastiest room on the 3rd floor. The door was our first indication; it was as battered as parts of Fort Castillo de San Marcos. When we went in the stench hit us right away. I went to close the drapes and discovered what may have been blood or lipstick or something on them. The whole room seemed to be the dumping ground for all the banged up furniture from the other rooms. I was very disappointed. I ask, if this is what you get for using a reward night, the nasty room, instead of paying full price, where is the reward in the whole thing?
