“The place is not good”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Upon arriving to this establishment I waited 20 minutes for someone to come to the counter to service my reservation. I wish I had read the "real" reviews on this place because this place was very crappy for a family to stay. The manager insisted on my family booking a larger double room/suite because we had a two year old with us and said she is counted as an extra adult in need of a bed. We went along with what the manager said because he had a way of talking to us like we didn't know what we were thinking.
The home was gross; not clean at all. Seemed as if homeless people were living there. The room they gave my family did not have much air circulation and smelled like a cat had sprayed in the corners. The TV had a bad tube and flicked in a red contrast only. When coming back from dinner my family was walking through the second room in the house where the pool table was and there were open pornographic magazines laying around in the corner. (In our reservations we specifically stated we had a young toddler traveling with us) Their website says they are a "secure and peaceful place" But no one in my party slept well that night. The hostel is quite noisy and unsettling to be in. The bathrooms were gross including the "private bathroom" in our room. It has ants in it as well as mold and fungus growing in various spots around the bath room. There were also left over hairs in the shower from whoever used it before our stay, I suggest you visit this place if you do not mind staying in filthy disgusting places. And if you really enjoy people who talk down to you and think that people who expect a decent place to stay are crazy then book this place. Otherwise, we went to the Days Inn less than a mile away that was 100% cleaner and safer as well as courteous and comfortable. The cost for a room at the Days Inn was even less expensive. Casa Yallaha place is a WASTE! And a joke of a place to stay in St. Augustine. (By the way, most of the positive reviews on this page are fake)

Casa Yallaha is under New Management. I am sorry to hear about the issues you spoke of in your review. However, I am grateful as one of the owners to hear about it. It is for those very reasons that we hired a new manager and cleaned house, literally.

Customers now find a VERY CLEAN and very welcoming environment that is family friendly with the utmost in customer care and service.

Now, its not a 5 star hotel with marble counters and all that, it is an old house built in the 1800's. The experience is something that I will never forget. My wife and I booked the private two bedroom. It has its own private bath. We had two other couples come stay with us, it was almost like camping!! The kitchen and bathrooms were very clean. Charles is awesome, offered to let us use fishing poles and the like. There is a grill, and a really nice back porch area.Research what a hostel is before you book and blame...

The best part was meeting people from all walks of life. We sat around the pool table with some cocktails and played a game, and people that were staying in the hostel would come join in, we had a blast. It was something you would not experience at a stuffy hotel. I recomend it, especially if you want to try something new
THANKS CHARLES!!!! See ya next year!

Room Tip: The two bedroom opens right out on to the back porch

I stayed for two nights and was kind of confused about my stay. The owner was very nice and helpful when I arrived, but my first night was frightening and I was very happy that I booked a single room which I could lock. I woke up the first night because someone coughed very very loud. After a couple of minutes I went to go to the washroom and found a homeless guy (he looked homeless) sleeping right next to the toilet completely drunk and snoring..... Luckily there was a second washroom where I could go to. But this was kind of weird.... However the second night was similar, as strange noises where all over the place and I could't get any sleep. I wouldn't return there.

My wife and I are traveling the USA and booked this hostel in Feb to stay in May over a public holiday weekend. On arrival the staff couldn't find our reservation and even after I showed the email confirmation and email from the hostel itself they denied or booking stating that hostels.com overbooks. No apology just a referral to an overpriced terribly unclean hotel. Paid over double for a room I wouldn't wish on an enemy. Do not support these people, especially there referral hotel, econo inn.

Charles, Linc and the rest of the staff made me feel relaxed and with the cool people around the hostel and the laid-back atmosphere of St. Augustine, it was a great weekend.
You can't beat the price if you need a rack to crash for a few nights and breakfast too?!!
Was in the city for the Scottish games and between that, the hostel and the small town night life, it will be a place I would come back and hang at for a weekend getaway.

Room Tip: Make reservations.
