“Lots of style, but not much substance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

If you are going to pay top dollar for a fine meal, you expect top-dollar results. Cellar 6 did not measure up to that expectation. I suggest you go somewhere else, especially for family dining.

The atmosphere is nice, in a very trendy sort of way - dark, eclectic, but fancy. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night, which was a pleasant surprise given that we were a party of 7. Everyone loved the light-up menus.

The food was generally good, but not great, especially for the price. The $32 steak, in particular, was quite average. The scallops were definitely the best entree we sampled, though I've still had better scallops elsewhere for less. On the other end of the spectrum, the fish in the fish tacos was as dry as any fish I've ever been served. In retrospect, I should have sent them back or demanded that they be taken off the bill.

Cellar 6 is as much bar as restaurant. As a case in point, we were asked if we wanted a food menu upon being seated, or if we only needed the already-provided drink menus. This was a bit of an odd question, given the amount of children in our party! At any rate, given the prominence of the bar aspect of Cellar 6, the drinks were surprisingly sub-par. The beer was served not particularly cold, and the soft drinks were served a bit flat, watery, and with almost no ice. How hard is it to serve a proper Coke? This happened even with the second batch of drinks after the problem was pointed out to the server. Nobody comes to Cellar 6 for the Cokes, naturally, but I mention this because it's another example of almost every part of the meal having something sub-par about it, reinforcing that we were not getting our money's worth.

If you want to go someplace "cool", Cellar 6 might fit the bill. If you want to go someplace with great food, Cellar 6 is a miss. If you want that great food at a respectable price, you are definitely in the wrong restaurant! Our final bill for 4 entrees, an appetizer, 2 beers, and 5 soft drinks was over $150 with tip.

“Two very different experiences”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

So, we went here twice - once on Sunday around 6.00pm - it was semi-busy and we sat outside, which was very pleasant indeed. We had a great waitress who went to a lot of trouble to explain the specials, etc and was very pleasant and attentive. The food and drinks we ordered were all delicious and we had a great time - so much so that we booked online to visit the following night at 8.00pm.

On arrival the following night we soon wondered why we'd bothered with the booking, as it didn't seem to make much of a difference as to getting seated quickly. We were initially offered a table right next to the live music, but it was very loud, so we declined and waited in the bar area with a drink. After a while, one of the other customers noticed us waiting and offered us her table, so we attracted the attention of a waiter and got seated there. We waited quite a while before my husband finally asked a passing waiter who would be serving us - he didn't know, but eventually a waitress appeared - she was fairly offhand and brisk and we had no idea if there were any specials or not because she wasn't bothered with anything like that! We weren't worried, however, as we wanted exactly what we'd had the previous night, although one of the items was disappointingly 'off'.

We also ordered more drinks at this point as it didn't look like we'd be getting our food any time soon! I ordered some sparking wine, but when the waitress put it on the table it looked far from sparkling, but she rushed off before I had chance to even open my mouth. When we managed to attract her attention again she said it wasn't sparkling wine, because they didn't have any, but was an alternative, which would have been fine if she'd actually bothered to say anything about it!!

When our food arrived it wasn't quite as nice as it had been the previous night but it was still good.

At the end of our meal, when we wanted to pay the bill and leave, we had yet another long wait - our lovely Sunday waitress had explained to us that if we wanted attention we simply had to press the button on the menu on the table and it glowed red, which would attract a server's attention. Great idea - if it actually worked!!! No-one took a blind bit of notice, but we finally paid and left - disappointed this time. If this had been our first experience at Cellar 6 there would have been no way we would have returned, which is a real shame.

Maybe it was just a one-off, maybe they were extra busy, who knows, but I can't say I'd want to rush back again anytime soon.

“A good time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

Had a fabulous time at Cellar 6 this weekend. The service was superb and the food was unbelievable!! AND as a bonus since our table ordered the dinner specials we got $10 off the bottle of wine we ordered!! Couldn't believe that deal! The place is really top notch and a great night out. We ended up staying until they closed!!! Cellar 6 is definitely a great and unforgettable stop that should be on your next trip to St Augustine!!

“Cool place”

Amazing bruschetta, and the scallops were fantastic. Servers were pleasant. Go early though, as it gets crowded and loud, and you can tell when the servers know the locals...

“Laid-back setting for dinner or drinks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

Great bar and restaurant on a busy side street in the historic area with a lively scene inside and out. The wine list offers a wide range of prices, types and regions, and the dinner menu includes something for every palette. A great place to sit at the bar and socialize with friends, or get a table and listen to live music and people watch. Servers are very attentive and have made for a great experience each time I've visited.
