“Comfy upscale bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I stopped for lunch at this comfy little upscale bistro and enjoyed it. The mushroom soup was delicious. Elegant with linen table cloths and good service. Road side parking and a metered lot close by.

It's impossible not to fall in love with St. Augustine. Especially at Christmas time. And especially if you stay at the Old City House Inn. We spent a lovely December weekend as guests of Juan and the staff at the inn. EVERYTHING was GREAT. Wine and cheese to welcome us and a room that belies the age of the house. Perhaps the best part of the inn is the staff. They never made it seem like any request was out of the ordinary. The staff was always welcoming and cheerful. They arranged our romantic carriage ride and gave us local walking tips. The inn is located near the center of old town and very convenient to Flagler College and the Lightner Museum. Every meal was excellent. We recommend the tri-color salad with blackened fish. Can't wait to go back!

I really want to give the Old City House Inn five stars because the service, breakfast, and even the restaurant are excellent; however, the room was a major disappointment. Be careful when booking the Ammidown because it looks NOTHING like the pictures (the bedspread is not even the same, and the furniture is different). I was told that there were "renovations" made to rooms. In my opinion, the "renovations" to the Ammidown are poor. The ambiance is lacking: the green-colored wall and the rug are unappealing, the trim needs to be painted, and the bathroom needs a little work (including the need for a new toilet seat). The inn was totally booked, so I was not able to ask for another room (which I really would have preferred). The location is great, and the grounds are fabulous. The evening cocktail and delightful cheese and cracker platter are a treat. If you stay here, book a different room than I did. If you have a chance, eat at the restaurant for dinner; the food is delicious.

The rooms were very cute and cosy and so was the service, very friendly staff and the breakfast was very good too. Will Definitely come back again. To this lovely value for money hotel.
The location of the hotel was also very good it was right next to all the main historical places.

The restaurant is charming in downtown St. Augustine just half a block from the dazzling Christmas light displays. Has a full bar. Wine by the glass is $8 - 13. Good pours. Mushroom bisque exception mushroom taste supported by luscious cream base. Crab bisque - well I'd rather it had been lobster. My Chilean sea bass on mashed potatoes was terrific. Nice crisp vegetables. Wife's lamb chops extraordinary. Green salad excellent. Pecan pie with a little vanilla ice cream was terrific. We live here in St. Augustine so this will be a regular stop for us.

Dinner for two starting with a martini each, then 2 glasses wine each and a cognac w dessert - $195 including tip.

Only negative, small - wait staff was attentive and friendly but dressed too casually.

Our daughter arranged for us to participate in the 20th Annual Bed & Breakfast Holiday Tour and stay overnight (Dec. 14/2013) at the Old City House Inn. The Tour was a delightful experience but the highlight was our stay at the Old City House Inn. The staff was friendly, extremely accommodating and catered to our needs. At our "reception hour" we were offered a glass of wine and a cheese platter that, presentation alone, was superb!! Although the restaurant was booked solid for the evening, we comfortably sat in the bar area and ordered delicious appetizers, salads and soup. Every bite was delicious and our choice of cheese cake for dessert was sinfully yummy!!! Breakfast the following day was a fresh fruit platter, eggs benedict, bacon, sausage and seasoned potatoes. We learnt that the new owners decided not to open the restaurant for breakfast to outside traffic so that they could concentrate on the inn clientele. Another way to make "visitors" feel special. The location is close to everything worth seeing and except for the flooded streets during the downpour of rain, it is amazing. Our room was clean and inviting and the cute "nook" that housed another bed was very cozy. Truly a memorable experience worth repeating!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Flagler - the little "nook" was very cozy and being on the upper level pr...
