PENNY FARTHINGTON INN, ST. AUGUSTINE FLORIDA
~ EXCELLENT ~

My husband and I stayed at the Penny Farthing Inn to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone who is looking for a pleasant, CLEAN place to stay. I am definitely one of those people who is VERY nitpicky about the cleanliness of my hotel (yes, I do inspect the linens, tub, etc). I have to say that the Penny Farthing Inn met all of my expectations! Our room (the cherry rose room) was beautifully decorated, quiet, and lovely all-around. The location of the inn is perfect--within walking distance of all the haunts of st. augustine. The hosts were wonderful and breakfast was superb.

We have used Tripadvisor in the past and have usually found the reviews to be quite honest and helpful--until now.

First, I will say the proprietors and staff were friendly, helpful, and gracious. That much is true.

However, we can't express how disappointed we were in the room (Penny's Attic) we had. The furnishings appeared as though they were purchased from Goodwill--indeed, the room was shabby in general. The sink was little bigger than an airplane sink--plus we had to stoop to use it (I'm only 6'). The bathroom door doesn't close all the way, no place to hand a towel in the bathroom--or anywhere else for that matter. No closet--just a rod a couple of feet of the floor. The list could go on. Their website touted this room as 'the best suite in St. Augustine,' which, if true, scares me off of St. Augustine. We are not picky people, but for $229 per night (on the weekend) we expected much more.

In closing, I will say again, the proprietor was kind and did allow us to leave early.

Penny Farthing Inn is the best Bed and Breakfast we have stayed in and we will go back again when we are to stay in St. Augustine. The owners Marie and Dave made us feel as if we were old friends in for a visit. The room was very nice, comfortable and had everything we needed.
In the morning the breakfast was scrumptious and the presentation was a 10!
One of the things we appreciated was the location. Just around the corner from the Trolley to take you around the city so we never had to drive. We parked our car at the Inn's parking lot and never got in it till we were ready to leave.
Overall I give this Bed and Breakfast a 10 and we will stay there when ever we go back to St Augustine. We used to try different Inns looking for one we liked. We'll look no more as we found the one we really love. Thanks Marie and Dave for our very pleasant stay. Sincerely, Richard V
