“Resort security rude and intrusive”

Colony Reef Club

Stayed for 1 week in June 2008 with my wife and children in a 2 bedroom unit. My cousin and her husband stayed with their children in a 3 bedroom oceanview unit on the 2nd floor. Our unit was O.K. not very clean (had sand in the bed on our arrival) also foul smelling odor coming from the downstairs bathroom throughout our stay(we informed the owner yet nothing was done) so we kept its door shut the entire time. They have 24hr security that pace the grounds like tigers with guns and handcuffs on their hips. My wife was at the pool with my 5y/o and our 4month old with a cooler full of juice and water and was told to remove the cooler as this was against the rules. The security guard literally stood over her watching her until she removed it. Come on its June and 90+ degrees/humid my my child can't have a cold drink available at the pool?? No alchoholic beverages allowed by the pool or resort grounds this is posted around the resort and enforced by security. I'm not a huge party animal but I sure would have enjoyed a beer by the pool during my vacation in the evening, this was not an option. On one evening while on the balcony at my cousins unit the unit 2 floors above theirs had a few people gathered talking which did not seem particularly loud to me. As had been the norm security booted everyone out of the pool at 11pm and then shouted everyone quiet down "its 11 oclock quiet time". Later security shouted up to the unit a couple floors up to "watch your mouth". Again I was out on the balcony below them and did not find their noise level to be disturbing at all. Night after night I watched people get thrown out of the pool area for "lock down" at 11pm by the security personel. With the guns, the handcuffs, the badges, and the degrading tone of the security guards I started to feel a little like I was in prison. I will NEVER stay there again.

“3rd floor Direct ocean front. The roar & view of the ocean was awesome”

Colony Reef Club

Dec 15, 2007

Stayed at Unit # 2303 in December 2007. high to mid 70's. Couldn't beat the relaxing views / sunrises on the corner covered deck. This was the first time staying at the condo as well as St. Augustine. Nicely decorated unit. Inside pool was over clorinated, bad. Couldn't breathe inside the pool area. Daughter was throwing up it was so bad. Ghost ants in the kitchen. Front desk stated there everywhere ( how about a treatment if the whole bldg has them). Bought some ant killer, and never seen them again (turn off, but we got over it). Exterior pool not heated. Must be a great pool in the summer. Outdoor tub was 103 degrees. Nice gym. The warm weather brought some wandering homeless jobless wierdos to the beach in the afternoon hours. Security was 24hrs. If the owner stays on top of the upcoming upgrades in the unit ( bath tile, tub rust), this will continue to be a good rental. Place was a ghost town in December except for a few retirees. Nice weather to walk /shop St. Augustine. All in all, it was a nice break from 30 degree weather in PA!

“We Keep Coming Back”

We have been staying at Colony Reef every year since June 2000. Great place for family fun. Third bedroom may be small but who stays in the bedroom much anyway. The people who rent here are families with children. Very family friendly. Courtyard is very well kept. Beautiful beaches. We ave coming in June 06 and have 2 condo's rented. This is the second year that we have needed two. The ground floor by the pool is the best. We sit on the patio and watch the kids in the pool. They are old enough to do that but we are still close by. Can't say enough about Colony Reef and it's people. We now go through Nice Vacation Rentals but have been through Five Star as well. Both are great. Five Star doesn't have any units on the ground by the pool.

“Colony Reef. Dirty rooms”

Made reservations with Colony Reef to have a 3 bedroom unit. Upon arrival, the 3rd. bedroom was like a closet. No room for even a dresser in it. Just two twin beds. The sofa looked so dirty that we put a sheet over it so we would feel comfortable sitting on it, same with chairs.
The hot tub was not working. Thats what we really look forward to. Managers should have told us, apparently wasn't working for some time. Balconey floor was sticky!!!

Won't ever stay there again!!!

“Delightful and well thought out”

Colony Reef Club

All the pros, and only one con. Very accessible. Clean and fresh. Owners have maintained it very well, decorated with thought and care, well designed. Cozy, comfortable, lots of seating in DR and LR, Bigscreen TV, jacuzzi tub, (2 full bathrooms), all the necessary appliances, neat efficient kitchen, open floorplan, great balcony, view of pool and ocean. Secure. Great pool and deck, outdoor hot tub, kiddy wading pool. No obnoxious people anywhere! The beach is clean and great, hard packed, the water so warm. Dozens of restaurants with good food within 15 minute ride. Old St Aug very nearby. The 3rd bedroom is indeed very small, shelving in the closet serves as a dresser, but big deal - nice bathrooms! Plenty of hot water! The dolphins were frolicking just off shore almost every day. Even though it rained and we were there with 3 teens and 1 child, we all enjoyed ourselves and relaxed! Can't wait to go back.
