“Perfect Set-Up for Sisters with Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

We spent one night in the Hideaway Suite and wished we didn't have to leave. Beautiful, fresh and very clean with everything we could need available. Spacious rooms with very comfortable bedding - even the sofa bed was comfortable. Fabulous breakfast delivered to our room in the morning...so nice! We will definitely return.

Room Tip: The Hideaway Suite is separate from the main house - a one-bedroom apartment built over the garage s...

My husband and I recently stayed the weekend at the Alexander Homestead B&B in St. Augustine. We were warmly greeted by our hostess Bonnie, who was very accommodating from the start. We arrived a little early and so we called her and she made sure to have everything ready for us to get settled in so we could get out and do some early sightseeing.

We stayed on a Friday-Monday in the Queen Anne room. We had originally booked the Lady Grace but changed at the last minute since we wanted the private balcony. We were so happy we did, as this room was perfectly located. We were at the top of the stairs, but not to far back that it was inconvenient to bring our luggage. Directly in front of our room was a large refrigerator that stocked sodas, water, ice, etc. This was so perfect as we were able to keep food cold and enjoy the complimentary beverages she provided. There was also complimentary red, white, and zinfandel wine, as well as a delicious apricot brandy for guests to enjoy. Each morning fresh hot coffee (both regular and decaf) were brought up to the room outside.

Our room was a good size and our balcony was so delightful to sit on and enjoy the scenery and beautiful weather (with the exception of Saturday when it poured). The bathroom was small but sufficient. The shower had great water pressure but did have some temperature issues here and there, which is to be expected from an older home. There were wonderful little Alexander Homestead toiletries provided each day.

The one criticism about the room was that it didn't have it's own thermostat like some of the others did, so one night I was too hot, and the other I was too cold. It would definitely be helpful to have which rooms have their own thermostats on the website.

The breakfast each day was different and each one was better than the next. Each morning breakfast was served hot at exactly 9am. This was nice as it brought everyone together at the same time. In the past, I stayed at another B&B where breakfast was anytime between 8am and 10am. This was less intimate and we didn't get to meet as many nice people that way. Breakfast always started daily with a cup of fresh fruit (grapes, apples, pineapple, banana, etc.). There was vanilla yogurt to go over the fruit if preferred, and fresh homemade granola. So delicious!! Next, there was the main course - our first day it was a spinach and cheese quiche with bacon (ours was made sans bacon), potatoes, and Bonnie's Famous Homemade cinnamon sugar biscuit (which even had a cream cheese filling). The second day breakfast was my favorite. It was a french bread french toast with an almond syrup, and a cheese quiche baked with sweet honey chicken sausage on the bottom. There were even little mini blueberry muffins and butter. Unbelievable!! The third day, Bonnie was kind enough to accommodate us by making farm fresh eggs (instead of the bacon quiche), with potatoes, greens, and her homemade biscuit. Fresh orange juice, cranberry juice, tea, coffee, and water were served every day too. All of this took place in the wonderfully homey dining room by candlelight on her fine china dishes.

When we checked in, Bonnie was sure to give us a tour of the house, as well as a map to show where main points of interest were, and where recommended restaurants were located. She also provided us with a restaurant guide that had coupons and specials.

Bonnie and her sister and Terry were all very nice and we enjoyed sitting and chatting with them on occasion. The property is very close proximity to all major attractions within walking distance so that was very convenient. It's not too close where it was noisy outside, but close enough I was able to leave my husband to let him take a nap, and I went and shopped on St. George Street, King Street, and Charlotte Street without having to get a ride. Very safe part of town and there was plenty of parking on the property.

We got very beautiful photos of our experience and I can easily say that staying here was one of the highlights of my trip.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms seemed like they had less noise, as the people downstairs had the noise from the...

My husband and I came down for a get away and stayed in the hideaway suite. It was one of the most beautiful, welcoming, pleasant places we've ever stayed! Bonnie is incredibley welcoming, sweet and accomidating. Staying here felt more like staying with family than at a strangers home. We loved the seclusion we felt in the suite coupled with our delightful breakfasts in the main house with some wonderful couples and the most amazing food! Everything is within a beautiful walk from the house. The area is stunning and we have already started to plan our trip next year and will not be staying anywhere else!

Our friends recommended the Alexander Homestead and we were very impressed with this Bed & Breakfast. Everything was absolutly perfect! The location, the breakfasts, the beautifully decorated home and our hostess, Bonnie was a delight. She had nice music playing and refreshments available to use in the afternoons. We will definetly be back and hopefully stay longer next time. It was great to stay in the heart of St Augustine and walk to the historical sites and resturants.

Room Tip: We liked the Sweet William since we favor blue and the room is decorated in blues it also an exit th...

Bonnie and her staff were so attentive and sweet. If we needed something, she was right there in less than 5 minutes with it! The inn itself was beautiful, warm, and cozy, comeplete with a fire in the fireplace, and Lulubell the cat! And the breakfasts every morning were so delicious and well thought out for the guests. I would most definitely stay there again!
Thank you, Bonnie!

My husband and I spent three nights here and loved it. The apricot brandy was a nice treat, the bed was very comfortable, the shower, and oversized tub were great (vicious shower in the BEST way) and Bonnie was very sweet. The location is perfect in that you are within very easy walking distance to everything, but outside of the downtown action. It was nice and quiet for peaceful slumbers. Housekeeping was also outstanding. A few things could use a little work, though. My husband and I both thought the breakfast was just "eh". The fruit, granola, and yogurt were all excellent, but the hot dishes were just not very good. We were also not crazy about the baked goods. Other people were happy with their breakfast, but we just weren't. Also the light from the parking space (required by St Augustine) shines right into the bedroom in the Hideaway and there are not black out blinds. These are truly minor things, and I would absolutely stay here again in the Hideaway, but it does prevent me from giving it a "five".

Room Tip: I would ONLY stay in The Hideaway Suite. It was worth every penny and I was not impressed with the o...
